40 Days for Life: Houston, Texas

Image
Access: 40 Days for Life A woman walked into the mobile pro-life pregnancy center across from Planned Parenthood with a coupon for a free pregnancy test and ultrasound. She was given the coupon in February -- but did not use it. She had gone through with an abortion. As she pointed towards Houston’s Planned Parenthood abortion megaplex, she told volunteers, "I never want to go into that building again." She said the abortion was a terrible experience and that she would never have another one. The volunteers have seen other women who had been given these coupons -- by friends who had gone to Planned Parenthood. One woman’s friend told her that she really regretted her abortion and that before the friend had one, she should go see "the people in the blue bus." "Even if you think your day in prayer at Planned Parenthood was unproductive, think again," said one volunteer. "You never know how God will use the sacrifice you make t

Carved Pumpkin: Unborn Child in the Womb and Phrase "Occupy the Womb"

Image
A pumpkin carved with the beautiful image of an unborn child in the womb and the phrase “ Occupy the Womb .” It is a play on the recent political scene, but it serves as a reminder: the one thing that every one of us has in common is the time we spent in the womb of our mother.

All Saints Day - Feast Day: November 1

Image
By Catholic Digest Staff The Church celebrates the Solemnity of All Saints to honor the belief that every saint, known and unknown, is now with God. By acknowledging them and their lives, the Church is also recognizing the idea that salvation is open to everyone, a concept that St. John expressed when he talked of “a great multitude which no man could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and tongues,” all who can be saved. While the exact origin of All Saints Day being held on November 1 is difficult to determine, the first concrete historical mention comes from eighth century England, where it was thought that St. Egbert of York introduced it. The records imply that Rome accepted the English-Gallican practice, adopting it for the rest of the Church. Originally held at the end of May to celebrate the fulfillment of Pentecost, Pope Gregory IV transferred the feast to November since Rome could not handle the amount of pilgrims who attended the feast during lat

Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Image
A prayer to release many souls from Purgatory each time it is said and which was extended to include living sinners as well. Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, for those in my own home and in my family. Amen.

Afterwords: Five (5) Statements to Sleep On

Image
1.      The harder we try to stay awake the sleepier we get. 2.      Why is it that sometimes it is so hard to go to sleep at night, but so easy to stay asleep in the morning? 3.      Sometimes going to sleep is easy and waking up is hard and sometimes waking up is easy and going to sleep is hard. 4.      Let us spend our nights sleeping instead of seething. 5.      Sleeping through the storm is a greater miracle than stopping the storm.

Bishops make World Series wager

Image
With the St. Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers facing off in this year’s World Series two bishops are paying close attention. The St. LouisReview is reporting that St. Louis Archbishop Robert J. Carlson made a friendly wager over the games with former Cardinals fan Bishop Kevin W. Vann of Fort Worth, Texas, home of the Texas Rangers. Bishop Vann may want to root for both teams since he has strong ties to the St. Louis area. A native of Springfield, Ill., he grew up watching the Springfield Cardinals, which was then a farm team for the St. Louis Cardinals. He also spent his seminary years in St. Louis at the Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. But a bet’s a bet. And if the Cardinals win, Bishop Vann will send Archbishop Carlson a taste of authentic Texas BBQ along with a Stetson cowboy hat. If the Rangers take the title, Archbishop Carlson will send Bishop Vann a sampler of St. Louis favorites, including toasted ravioli, pretzels, locally-brewed beer and root beer, as well as a

Afterwords: Five (5) Thoughts for Today

Image
1.      In today's fast-paced world, contemplation and meditation seems so far-fetched and other worldly. 2.      Today we are who we are, we are not who we were yesterday and we are not who we will be tomorrow. 3.      Accept ourselves today as friend and companion for life and start developing a relationship with ourselves that will be rewarding. 4.      God will provide for us today and in the future just as surely as he has in the past. 5.      Choose life today.

40 Days For Life: McAllen, Texas

Image
Access: 40 Days For Life Nancy in McAllen, Texas has seen first hand that the 40 Days for Life vigil is having an impact. There's a big, new sign over the abortion center’s door: "Good women have abortions." (There's a similar sign at this abortion chain's location in Beaumont, Texas -- which is also a 40 Days for Life vigil site.) "What's up with that?" Nancy asked. "No one -- at any time -- has said anything or held any sign up that said women are bad." So they continue to pray -- that women will make good decisions. And it’s working! A woman pulled up to the traffic light at the corner and rolled down her window. "You saved my grandbaby!" she called out. "Thank you!" About two weeks ago, a volunteer spoke with her daughter and shared pro-life information. "She decided to keep her baby," said the woman in the car. "Thank you for being there!" "And THAT," said

Presentation Ministries: Grace and Peace

Image
Access: Presentation Ministries "Grace and peace be yours." —1 Thessalonians 1:1   Grace is the presence and power of God. We need grace because we cannot live for Christ by our natural power. We need God's supernatural power. We accept grace because we have faith in the God of grace, because we have a personal relationship with Him.   The Bible's meaning for peace is based on the Hebrew "shalom." Shalom means order and harmony. Shalom-peace means that everything is in its proper place. The Lord masterfully made this world with a physical, psychological, social, and spiritual ecology. When everything is in its proper place, we have paradise; we have shalom-peace. Shalom implies repentance for our sins and the submission of our lives and lifestyles to God's authority. Of course, this can only be done by grace. Prayer: Father, bless my life with shalom-peace so that my lifestyle may be a living witness to Your grace.   Accept more grace fro

40 Days For Life: Houston, Texas

Image
Pro-lifers in Houston are blessed with a mobile clinic that can often be found parked outside the huge Planned Parenthood abortion center. Volunteers recently spoke to a man on the sidewalk, who told them his wife had gone into Planned Parenthood for an abortion. After a short discussion, he called his wife and asked her to come outside to the mobile clinic. She left Planned Parenthood, but seemed reluctant to enter the mobile clinic -- until she was offered a free ultrasound. "We were able to show her on the ultrasound her unborn child with its heart just beating away," said one of the volunteers. "Her attitude immediately changed and she began to smile. She left our bus with proof of pregnancy, doctor referrals and a beautiful baby blanket."

Afterwords: Twelve (12) Heavenly Happenings

Image
1)     In Heaven everything is heavenly; in hell everything is hellish.   2)     Start preparing for Heaven today.   3)     Transfer our treasure from earth to heaven.   4)     One goal only: HEAVEN.   5)     Cyclical: Continuous cycle of receiving and giving; from the heavens to the earth; from the earth to the heavens.   6)     “Strut our stuff” on the runway to heaven with the accessories of: prayer, fasting and almsgiving.   7)     Be a Supermodel on the Runway to Heaven.   8)     The here and the hereafter: either heaven here and hereafter or hell here and hereafter.   9)     All the armies and angels of heaven come to the rescue.   10)   Will our eternal home be in heaven or will it be in hell?   11)    In Heaven everyday is a holiday; in hell everyday is a forced labor day.   12)   Let God do the “Heavenly Lifting” so you won’t have to do the “heavy lifting”.

Afterthoughts . . . .

Hail Blessed Virgin Mary from the Annunciation to the Assumption

Afterwords: Five (5) Points to Ponder about Paths

Image
  1)       Moderation is the right path in all things. 2)       In the dark paths of pain and doubt God takes us by the hand and leads us through it in peace and deliverance. 3)       We must be engaged in a never-ending series of requests, asking God to light our path, guide our steps and work within us so that we may bring honor and glory to Him. 4)       Every path has its share of mud puddles.   Stop along the way and make some mud pies.   Jump right in and make a big splash; scream, shout and squirm around. 5)       We all grapple with the issue of what parts of the past still apply to us, even as we struggle to discern our path into the future.
