Knights of Columbus Bible Study – Acts of the Apostles: Week 5: The Apostolic Age – Acts 1:13-26

Presenter:   Fr. Antonio O. Moreno Opening Prayer and Psalm 5: Prayer for Divine Help The Apostolic Age The Apostolic age is the history of Christianity and the growth of the Church that is traditionally the period of the Twelve Apostles.   The dating from the Crucifixion of Jesus (c. 30-33 A.D.) and the Great Commission in Jerusalem until the death of John the apostle   (c. 100 A. D.).   The major source for the “Apostolic Age” is the Acts of the Apostles.   During the time period many writings were produced and attributed to the direct followers of Jesus Christ. -The Catholic Church was built on the foundation of the Apostles as a community of faith, hope, and charity in Jesus Christ. (Rev 21: 9-14) -Through the Apostles , we come to Jesus himself (MK 1: 17 – “Jesus said to them, Come after me and I will make you fishers of men.”) -Pope John Paul II in his letter “Novo Millinnio” invites the Church to contemplate the Face of Christ.   “The light of the face of

Reflection of Father Moreno's Homily: August 28, 2011

Image
On their way to Jerusalem Jesus had a conversation with the apostles, he told them that he would have to suffer, be killed and on the third day be raised from the dead. They didn’t want to hear about his dying, just like we don’t want to hear about our loved ones dying. We do not like to talk about death, the finality of life, that we cannot control death. Peter rebuked Jesus that he would not be rejected, that he would not die. We give death the silent treatment, we ignore pain, we struggle to communicate, we are afraid of the depth of intimacy. Peter was in denial that Jesus would be rejected, crucified, suffer and die. In our journey of faith we deny and ignore suffering and this causes anger, frustration, sadness, and depression. We must rebuke Satan; exorcise Satan, because we have authority over Satan. Father Moreno encouraged us to read “The Screw tape Letters” by C.S. Lewis. There is a hell and there is a devil. We must say “Get behind me Satan”; we c

What happened - happened. What is happening – is happening. What will happen – will happen.                    Things have happened as God wills. Things are happening as God wills. Things will happen as God wills.

Don’t cave in to criticism and don’t cringe from controversy; courageously cast them down beneath the Cross of Christ and they will crack and crumble as you step on them to reach your calling.

8 keys to keeping kids Catholic

Image
By Carol Cimino, SSJ, Ed.D. 1. Remember that questioning is normal. 2. We all learn by experience. 3. Recognize that wariness of the Church is partially a response to how often our young people have been exposed to betrayal by their heroes. 4. Recognize that parents are the most influential adults in a child’s life. 5. Don’t be afraid to ask catechists and teachers for tools to answer religious and spiritual questions. 6. Encourage grandparents’ role in the life of a young person. 7. Nurture the understanding of what it means to belong to the Catholic Church among our young people, especially our teens. 8. Don’t panic if your teen seems uninterested in religion. Access article: 8 keys to keeping kids Catholic

YOUCAT - Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church

Image
YOUCAT , short for Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church, was distributed in multiple languages on World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid, Spain. The English-language edition is available from Ignatius Press. Developed with the help of young Catholics and written for high-school age people and young adults, YOUCAT is an accessible, contemporary expression of the Catholic Faith. The appealing graphic format includes Questions-and-Answers, highly-readable commentary, summary definitions of key terms, Bible citations and inspiring and thought-provoking quotes from Saints and others in the margins. What's more, YOUCAT is keyed to the Catechism of the Catholic Church , so people can go deeper. It explains: What Catholics believe and why (doctrine) How Catholics celebrate the mysteries of the faith (sacraments) How Catholics are to live (moral life) How they should pray (prayer and spirituality) The questions are direct and honest, even at times tough; the answers straightforward,

(Received in email) When God is about to reposition your life Know that the devil will begin to attack! The Poem I knelt to pray but not for long, I had too much to do. I had to hurry and get to work For bills would soon be due. So I knelt and said a hurried prayer, And jumped up off my knees.. My Christian duty was now done My soul could rest at ease...... All day long I had no time To spread a word of cheer No time to speak of Christ to friends, They'd laugh at me I'd fear.. No time, no time, too much to do, That was my constant cry, No time to give to souls in need But at last the time, the time to die I went before the Lord, I came, I stood with downcast eyes. For in his hands God held a book; It was the book of life. God looked into his book and said 'Your name I cannot find I once was going to write it down... But never found the time' If you look at what you do not have in life, You don't have anything, If you look at what y
