Letter to the Editor, Op-Ed Docudrama A slice of life from the 2015 March for Life   Cathi and Evan are first year college students attending Southern Desert State University (SDSU); they sacrificially saved to pursue their dream and one of the items on their bucket list, to attend the March for Life in Washington, D.C. The March for Life was held on January 22, 2015 and the theme was “Every Life is a Gift”. The March for Life in Washington, D.C., began as a small demonstration on January 22, 1974, the first anniversary of the now infamous January 22, 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe vs. Wade which legalized abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy.  The March for Life has rapidly grown to be the largest pro-life event in the world.  The peaceful demonstration that has followed on this somber anniversary every year since is an extraordinary witness to the truth concerning the greatest human rights violation of o

Prayer for the Unborn

Heavenly Father, in Your love for us, protect against the wickedness of the devil, those helpless little ones to whom You have given the gift of life. Touch with pity the hearts of those women pregnant in our world today who are not thinking of motherhood. Help them to see that the child they carry is made in Your image - as well as theirs - made for eternal life. Dispel their fear and selfishness and give them true womanly hearts to love their babies and give them birth and all the needed care that a mother can give. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.

A Pro Life Prayer For Our President And Public Officials

Lord God, Author of Life and Source of Eternal Life, Move the hearts of all our public officials and especially our President, to fulfill their responsibilities worthily and well to all those entrusted to their care. Help them in their special leadership roles, to extend the mantle of protection to the most vulnerable,  especially the defenseless unborn, whose lives are threatened with extermination by an indifferent society. Guide all public officials by your wisdom and grace to cease supporting any law that fails to protect the fundamental good that is human life itself, which is a gift from God and parents. You are the Protector and Defender of the lives of the innocent unborn. Change the hearts of those who compromise the call to protect and defend life. Bring our nation to the values that have made us a great nation, a society that upholds the values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all. Mary, the

January 27, 2015: Little Handmaid Cenacle with Lectio Divina

Image
Dear little handmaids and friends, Next Tuesday, January 27, 2015 , will be our Little Handmaids Cenacle for this month. It will be  from 5:30 until 7:30  in of the CCD classrooms at St. Joseph. At that cenacle we will begin a new plan for our spiritual growth, and next month we will increase the cenacles to twice a month: on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. At the cenacles, which are two hours long, we will spend the first half hour in Marian devotion, usually reading and reflecting on a paragraph from St. Louis de Montfort's  True Devotion to Mary.  After all, it is through Mary that we come into a deeper relationship with Jesus, so we approach our time with the Lord by nurturing our bond with Mary, His Mother and ours. For the rest of the two hours we will practice lectio divina, a means to listen to the Lord while we are reading and pondering Scripture. This is a method of contemplative prayer that I have practiced off and on for 15 years. Since Decembe

National Right to Life Congressional Action Alert U.S. House of Representatives to vote  January 22  on Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act! WASHINGTON ( January 13, 2015 ) -- The Republican leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives indicates that it intends to bring a major pro-life bill to the House floor for a vote on  Thursday, January 22, 2015 . The bill is the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36), which would extend general protection from abortion to unborn children nationwide beginning at 20 weeks fetal age, based on congressional recognition that by this point in development, if not earlier, the unborn child is capable of experiencing pain.   H.R. 36, sponsored by Reps. Trent Franks (R-Az.) and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tn.), is based on model legislation developed by National Right to Life that has already been enacted in 10 states. Saints Name Generator

Image
Hi little handmaids and friends, This is a suggestion from one of our little handmaid sisters. I have already gone to the website, and St. Maria Goretti is the saint who was assigned to me to get to know this year. She is the saint whose name I chose for my Confirmation name. Imagine that! Love and blessings, Cami Hi great people! Here's a great idea for the New Year: go to the link attached and get yourselves a patron saint for the year, someone you will get to know and who will intercede for you. The saint's name generator by Jennifer Fulweiler will pick one for you at random. The question is, will it really be at random or will God have a finger in it? Bl Kateri is mine for this year and I just finished a moving book about a Native American (like Bl Kateri) Hmmm! This is a nice way to get to know a new friend in heaven. Engage in dialogue with all people of differing religious beliefs

Image
Recent events remind Catholics of our commitment to engage in dialogue, not just with Muslims, but with all people of differing religious beliefs. In this 50th anniversary year of the Vatican II Declaration  Nostra Aetate , we remember our call to “recognize, preserve and promote the good things, spiritual and moral, as well as the socio-cultural values” found in other religions ( Nostra Aetate,  no. 2). In the wake of violence, Auxiliary Bishop Robert McElroy of San Francisco reminds us that “we continue to labor for greater understanding and mutual commitment to peace and religious freedom.” The  Bishops’ Committee on Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs  affirmed the teachings of  Nostra Aetate  in the document  “Dialogue with Muslims,”  released in  August 2014. The bishops expressed their conviction that “encounter and dialogue with persons different than ourselves offers the best opportunity for fraternal growth, enrichment, witness, and ultimately peace.” As the world

Letter to the Editor, HHS Mandate vs. HIS MANDATE Health and Human Services Mandate versus GOD’S MANDATE Who are the Little Sisters of the Poor and why are they being harassed and harangued by the United States Government? The Little Sisters of the Poor is an international Roman Catholic Congregation of Religious Sisters and as their website so eloquently states: “The Little Sisters of the Poor offer the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to Himself; and they have been doing this for over 175 years because of their faith in God.” Currently, there are thirty homes in the United States and The Little Sisters serve more than 13,000 elderly poor people in thirty-one countries around the world. The Little Sisters adhere to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. In accordance with their faith, they uphold the unique, inviolable
