Letter to the Editor, Streaming and screaming screens All around us screens are screaming at us. We cannot avoid screaming and screeching screens, whether a movie-screen, television-screen, computer-screen, smart phone screen, or tablet-screen; they are rubbing-out our reasoning and robbing-us of our rationality. They deliver all kinds of experiences that quickly suck us in and we are suckers for allowing them to do that to us.  What might seem harmless is indeed harmful, in a destructive and dangerous way. If you think this is crazy, then you’ve been brainwashed by the streaming, screaming screens where artificial sights and sounds have replaced natural sights and sounds. We are swept off into a make-believe world where we escape the people and problems of the real world. We choose to call it entertainment when in reality it is escapism. We choose to justify our screens of choice because we say we need them. So now the basic human survival needs are: Oxygen, Wa

Letter to the Editor, Fight for the right to live On your mother’s nightstand the colorful bouquet of flowers are still alive thanks to the nutrients in the flower food-packet and the life-giving fresh water that you poured in the vase. It’s been a week since her 93rd birthday. Your mother forgets things; she’s been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.  Your mother is alive. She wants us to know that she wants us to fight for her right to live. The real meanings There is a deep disconnect between what people say and what words really mean. Cecile Richards, daughter of former Texas Gov. Ann Richards and former CEO of Planned Parenthood, stated she had been “honored” to fight for abortion. Is it honorable to kill babies in their mother’s womb? Isn’t it something “dishonorable”? And “fight” for abortion? If it is a good thing, there wouldn’t be any reason to have to fight for abortion. Does anyone have to “fight” to have an appendectomy, a tonsillectomy or coronary artery bypass surgery, or have a decayed tooth extracted? Of course not; these procedures are performed by medical professionals who practice the art and science of healing. Letter to the Editor, Typing real-truth news Rider Escritora was shopping at what some called an antique store, but she referred to as a vintage shop. The store was filled from top to bottom with a dazzling display of what some called junk, but she referred to as hidden treasures.  She loved to find enchanting items that brought a twinkle to her eye and a delightful smile to her face. There it was sitting on top of a dusty wooden table, a manual typewriter. She knew she must have it. But did it work, she wondered?  Conveniently placed beside the typewriter was a wooden box with white sheets of paper. She took a sheet, rolled it into the cartridge and typed with two fingers, “I wonder how much this typewriter costs?” and before she could continue, this appeared on the sheet of paper, “$300”. Perplexed, she ventured to type another question, “What is my name?” and the answer appeared “Rider Escritora”.  How could this be? She looked around; the store was empty

Father Jaime Paniagua: Brief Biography of New Pastor at Saint Joseph Church in Del Rio, Texas Father Jaime Paniagua was born and raised in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico, on October 25, 1975. He is the oldest of three children, he has two younger sisters. He entered the Congregation of the Legionaries of Christ in Mexico on September 14, 1995. He did his two years of Novitiate in Dublin, Ireland, studied humanities in Cheshire, Connecticut, and for three years was part of the formation team in the novitiate of the Legion of Christ in Medellin, Colombia.  He was ordained a priest in Rome on December 20, 2008. He has a Master’s Degree in Philosophy from the Pontifical Regina Apostolorum College in Rome. While in Rome, Father Jaime worked at the Vatican as personal secretary for Mexican retired Cardinal Javier Iozano Barragan.  In 2011, he moved to Washington, DC where he earned a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology, and helped in Regnum Christi retreat house in Bet

Letter to the Editor, Insights on Independence Day Independence Day marks the date the United States became independent from the menace of political tyranny.  We  cherish the thought of being citizens in a free nation under God, and we understand the sacrificial price our military paid to ensure this freedom. It is the day we celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence whose profound words acknowledge the laws of nature and of God as being the foundation for a just nation’s survival if that nation is to be truly independent from the evils of oppression. This  document declared: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Independence  from tyranny definitely does not include the right to kill innocent persons because of their age, health, or condition of dependency.  In a nation that
