September 14, 2014: Archdiocese of San Antonio will begin "The Season of Welcome"

On the weekend of September 14th, the Archdiocese of San Antonio will begin "The Season of Welcome".  The primary purpose of the Season of Welcome is to proclaim the saving love of Jesus Christ and to invite others to an encounter with Him in the beauty of the Mass.  This New Evangelization outreach effort aims to let people know that all are WELCOME in the Catholic Church.

Letter to the Editor, The Del Rio community is invited to participate in a “Season of Welcome”, a New Evangelization outreach initiative of the Catholic Church from September 14 (The Feast of The Exaltation of the Holy Cross) to November 2 (All Souls Day). Under the direction of Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of San Antonio will be entering into a “Season of Welcome” as part of the New Evangelization.  Pope John Paul II, recently canonized a saint, first introduced the term “New Evangelization”, then Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI continued to expound on it by delving more deeply into what the “New Evangelization” would mean for the Church, and now under the leadership of Pope Francis the Catholic Church is taking all that his predecessors had conceptionalized and is undertaking to put it into practice.   Pope Francis stated: “So many of our brothers and sisters are living without th

Read entire article in Today's Catholic SUMMER MISSION PROJECT BRINGS JOY Excerpts: The Eucharistic Missionaries of the Most Holy Trinity made their joyful, generous presence felt throughout the Archdiocese of San Antonio during a three week “mission and service” experience organized by the archdiocesan Mission Awareness Office. Hospitality for their three-week visit was offered by the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate, parishioners of St. Joseph Church in Del Rio , and the Congregation of the Divine Providence.   The mission plan included visiting  S t. Joseph Parish in Del Rio summer Vacation Bible School sessions and door-to-door evangelization effort . “The Sisters were great!” Father Clay Hunt, pastor of St. Joseph Church in Del Rio exclaimed.   “They were a blessing to over 125 children in our summer Vacation Bible School.”    They also left prayer cards with a special prayer to “Jesus in the Sacrament of the Altar

"I have to say it was very hard dealing with my new physical state when I lost my hand and arm. I was upset with God and couldn't understand why it happened to me," said Barrera. "Now, I have learned that God had a purpose for me and that I have become what I am today because of everything I have been through.
