Image
St. Andrew Christmas Novena Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour, vouchsafe, O my God to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen Pray 15 times a day from the feast of St. Andrew (30 th November) until Christmas (25 th December). Imprimatur +MICHAEL AUGUSTINE, Archbishop of New York

Do not be afraid!

Image
“Do not be terrified.” (Luke 21:9)                 “Do not let your hearts be troubled.”   (John 14:1)   In all situations, in the face of every worry, Jesus offers comfort to his people. “Don’t worry; my Father has everything under control,” he tells us.                                                                                                                                                       We may see troubling things, we may hear frightening news, but do not be afraid. If only we could all hold fast to this simple phrase: I will not be afraid!            Everyone who turns to him finds help in times of need. We are loved by One who is both our Shepherd and our Guardian.   He has poured his love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Do not be terrified, God the Father says, for “I am your shield” (Genesis 15:1).            Do not be afraid, for I am with you and will help you. I am y

November 24, 2012: "Small Business Saturday"

Image
"Small Business Saturday"  will be observed on November 24 . . . . .   It's a day between “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” dedicated to supporting small businesses in your community . . . . . . Now “ Small Business Saturday” sounds sensible . . . . . something to be supported . . . . It is very much in keeping with the Catholic teaching of subsidiarity . . . . . This tenet holds that nothing should be done by a larger and more complex organization which can be done as well by a smaller and simpler organization . . . . . . smaller and simpler is definitely better . . . . .   “Small Business Saturday” is sandwiched in-between the mammoth monstrosities of “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” . . . . . . Find a small business store in town and buy something there that you would otherwise need to get at a conglomerate . . . . . Shop downtown . . . . Find a small, mom and pop, neighborhood store . . . . S

November 23, 2012 & November 26, 2012: Say “NO to Black Friday & NO to Cyber Monday”

Image
After such a beautiful national holiday - “Thanksgiving Day”, a day dedicated to being grateful to God for all the blessings He has so generously bestowed upon us . . . . it is unfortunate that what should follow are two (2) days “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” . . . . . . . devoted to selling and shopping for things . . . . not necessarily because we need those things . . . . . but solely because those things are on sale . . . . and we are made to feel that we need to have those things . . . . because those things are at such bargain prices that we cannot possibly pass up such great deals . . . . What’s with “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” . . . . . “Black Friday” being the day after “Thanksgiving Day” and “Cyber Monday” being the day after the Thanksgiving Weekend. . . . .    these days have been hijacked . . . . . taken over and become totally commercialized . . . . consumerism gone wild . . . . consumerism immortalized . . . . Blessed Jose Luis Sanchez del Rio

Image
A video about the martyrdom of Jose Luis Sanchez del Rio, beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on November 20, 2005. The Cristero War (also known as "La Cristiada") of 1926 to 1929, was an uprising and counter-revolution against the Mexican government in power at that time. The rebellion was set off by vicious persecutions against the Catholic Church, including anti-clerical laws, desecration of religious objects and churches, and the murder of many priests and religious.

Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller's THANKSGIVING message in Today's Catholic

Image
The Eucharist, a sacred sign of thanks. The word Eucharist itself comes from the Greek word that means “thanksgiving”. In it we celebrate God’s unending love, his gift of salvation through the death and resurrection of his beloved son, and our vocation to share this cup of salvation with others. In this sacred sign of thanks we are fed, but we are given the opportunity to bring the saving cup to others. In the words of St. Angela we are told, "If we but paused for a moment to consider attentively what takes place in this Sacrament, I am sure that the thought of Christ's love for us would transform the coldness of our hearts into a fire of love and gratitude." "This nation is still Mine!" says the LORD

Image
(Received in email) Dear little handmaids, friends, and family, On the morning of election day I received a very beautiful and comforting image that I would like to share with you. In the image the Father was holding a very sick child. The child was so sick, he couldn't hold his head up, and so he was laying his head on the Father's shoulder. The Father was standing up, and He said, "This nation is still Mine." I was also given the knowledge and understanding that it is intercessors who hold this nation in the Father's arms. I hope the gift of this image will be a source of encouragement and inspiration to you, so that we will continue interceding for our nation. With you in the loving arms of the Father, Cami "For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." (Jer . 29:11)
