Email received from Amistad Pregnancy Care Center amistadpregnancycarecenter@gmail.com Dear Pro Life Friends: The Amistad Pregnancy Care Center, Invites you to join us in silent prayer while standing and holding a sign with a short but powerful message on Sunday October 28th, from 3:00 – 4:00 PM, when  National Life Chain Sunday 2018  calls our nation to One hour of intercession and public witness on the easement front area of Del Rio Civic Center. Please, if you will, mark that date on your calendar and help us build a devout prayer vigil that God can use to change hearts and save lives and families in our local area. Life Chain is a peaceful, prayerful public witness of pro-life Americans standing in honor of 59 million lives lost to abortion, praying for our nation, for people in crisis situations and for an end to abortion.  It is a visual statement of solidarity by the Christian community that abortion kills children and that the Church supports the s...

Letter to the Editor, R-E-S-P-E-C-T: Honor it! Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke campaigning for U.S. Senate was asked, “How do you feel about NFL players who take a knee during the national anthem? Is it disrespectful to this country, to the flag, to service members in Afghanistan, and those former service members, retirees and veterans?” He replied, “My short answer is no, I don’t think it’s disrespectful.” A detailed discourse followed. He concluded saying, “I can think of nothing more American than to peacefully stand up, or take a knee, for your rights, anytime, anywhere, anyplace.” A recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found a majority of voters say that it’s not appropriate for NFL players to kneel during the national anthem.   O’Rourke’s comments supporting the protests went viral, earning extensive social media shares and garnering praise from Hollywood celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, who had him on her show, and professional athletes most notably ...

Letter to the Editor, Not another Clinton Chelsea Clinton, mother of two children, recently gave a speech stating that abortion is good for the country because it creates economic growth.  Unfortunately, in order for this economic growth to occur, fetal growth has to be aborted. She said to strengthen support for abortion emphasize what a tremendous economic benefit the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade has been.  Roe freed more women to work unencumbered by motherhood, and over time has added $3.5 trillion to the U.S. economy.  Does Chelsea feel she is encumbered by her children to work?  Or are only poor, financially disadvantaged women encumbered by their motherhood? Liberals have literally put a price on children, because the mass killing of children is making money for the country.  With this type of thinking slavery should be reinstated because it would bring more money to the country and economic growth is of ...

Letter to the Editor, Ode to a school desk It’s back to school again; the classrooms await a new crop of students. Each year every classroom gets thoroughly cleaned for a new set of students to begin their school year chalk full of adventures. Each classroom shines bright, ready to hold a classroom full of students and their teachers, each with their own unique and distinctive personality. Every year holds the prospect that this will be the year that something amazing will happen. The anticipation is palpable. The questions swirling all summer long: What will my teacher be like? What will the students be like? What will I be like? Will my teacher like me? Will the students like me? Will I like my teacher? Will I like the students? Questions that only time will tell how they will be answered. Each year is a new beginning. The slate is clean, new memories will be written. Each desk awaits a new student to occupy their place for a sch...

San Antonio According to the Texas State Historical Association, the Catholic Church has been part of Texas history since 1528. The Catholic history and culture is so prevalent that the San Antonio Missions are considered a National Historical Park, which preserves four out of the five Spanish frontier missions in San Antonio. These locations were established to spread the Catholic Faith to Native Americans in early American history. The most popular, Mission San Antonio, was established in 1718 by Father Antonio Olivares and was later converted to the “Alamo,” a military fort that was sieged in 1836 (“Remember the Alamo!”). Visitors can take in the entire experience by driving, biking or walking down a 10-mile Mission Trail. One of the most striking structures in San Antonio — and certainly the most historic — is the San Fernando Cathedral. Founded in 1731, it’s the “oldest, continuously functioning religious community in the state of Texas,” according to its website. ...
