The Great Power of the Rosary

Fr. Schiffer and seven other priests survived Hiroshima by praying the Rosary daily... "Realize the power in your hand with the Rosary, for in your hands you hold the power of God. If you do not recognize the Rosary, can you expect to be recognized by My Son? How much can you expect? Why do you hide My Rosary? It was with a Mother's loving heart that I chose to give you these pearls of Heaven that you reject. "Woe to all dedicated who seek to remove these from the little ones' hands, for their punishment will be metered in accordance to it! "Why has sophisticated man cast aside these tokens of My love? Those who remain true to My Rosary will not be touched by the fires. Gather these treasures, My children, for the time will come that you will not find them on the counters of your stores." - Our Lady of the Roses, October 6, 1970 Eight Jesuit priests survived the searing hurricane of blast and gamma rays during the atomic bomb explosion in Hiroshima,...

Big changes are coming to the texts we use at Mass. Here are five ways to be ready and prayerful

Image
The Roman Missal — which contains the prayers we use at Mass — has been retranslated. The new translation has been approved by Rome, and we will start using it a year from now, on the first Sunday of Advent, November 27, 2011 How should we prepare for the new texts? 1. Stay calm and prayerful and patient. You may hear a lot of people trumpeting the new texts, and a lot of others decrying them. Try not to get sucked into pitched battles over language. No text, no translation is perfect, and we won’t know if these texts help us pray well or not until we’ve been using them for many years. 2. Get to know the changes. The bishops have set up a website ( usccb.org/romanmissal ) showing samples of the new texts. Speak them out loud. Start to work on praying them. Listen to Bishop Serratelli’s (chairman of the Bishops’ Committee on Divine Worship) video introduction on the site, and read some of the explanations and background the bishops provide. If your parish makes any resources ...

A personal invitation to pray with our new shepherd

Image
My Dear Brothers and Sisters, Soon I will begin my ministry as Archbishop of San Antonio . With great humility I prepare to embrace the challenges ahead and open my heart to the new opportunities that God will place before us in the years to come. I personally invite you to join me for an evening of prayer Monday, November 22 , 7 p.m. at Main Plaza , in front of San Fernando Cathedral . Please stand with me in this place where the faith of our city has been strengthened and nurtured for nearly 300 years, as we ask God for the wisdom and guidance I will need as His humble servant. Together, let us raise our voices, asking God to quiet our hearts so we may hear His voice and know His will. I f you cannot be with me in person, then I hope, wherever you are, you will join us in prayer and solemn reflection. Sincerely in Christ, +Gustavo Garcia-Siller, M.Sp.S. Archbishop-designate
