From the height of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rock – one of the major points of devotion in the city of Rio de Janeiro – were displayed the faces of saints and blesseds that will provide heavenly assistance to those who travel to World Youth Day 2013 in Rio. The Local Organizing Committee named five patron saints and thirteen holy intercessors.
The chosen patrons: Our Lady of Aparecida, St. Sebastian, St. Antonio Galvao de Santana, St. Therese of Lisieux, and Blessed John Paul II.
The named intercessors, which have been selected as role models for youth, are: St. Rosa de Lima, St. Teresa de Los Andes, Blessed Laura Vicuña, Blessed Jose de Anchieta, Blessed Albertina Berkenbrock, Blessed Chiara Luce Badano, Blessed Sister Dulce, Blessed Adílio Daronch, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, Blessed Isidore Bakanja, Blessed Ozanam, St. George, and Saints Andrew Kim and Companions.
