Delfina Martinez de la Garza, 88, of Del Rio, Texas, passed away in Austin, Texas, on February 18, 2012.

She was born to Maria de la Luz Ramirez and Liberato Martinez on September 12, 1923.

Delfina was a loving and caring wife to her husband Nicolas Antu de la Garza (deceased) during their 33 years of marriage.

Delfina retired after many years with the San Felipe Del Rio school district.

Blessed with a warm, generous heart and humble nature, she enjoyed expressing her love to family and friends through her wonderful cooking.

Her faith and devotion to God sustained her daily life.

She was thrilled and proud at her family's successes and suffered with them in their disappointments.

Delfina was proudest of having provided an education and start in life to her children.

They will miss her shoulder to lean on and a mom's unconditional love.


She is survived by her daughter Lucy and her husband Lewis of Austin, son Nicolas Jr. and his wife Barbara of Chesapeake Bay, VA., son Robert Lee and his wife Janie of San Angelo, son Marcos and his wife Maricela of El Paso, son Joe and his wife Erica of Norfolk, VA., half-brother Guadalupe Martinez of Del Rio, and Emilia, wife of uncle Maximo Martinez (deceased) of Del Rio.

Delfina was grandmother to Roxanne, Amber, Amy, and Derek de la Garza, Jerry and Linda Centeno; great-grandmother to Julian de la Garza; aunt to Venancio de la Garza, Jr., Candelaria Linan, Guadalupe Ortiz, Dora Soto, Arturo de la Garza, Andrew Marquez, and Edelmira Calzada of Sanderson.


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm and Thursday, February 23, 2012 from 5:00pm-9:00pm at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm on Thursday, February 23, 2012.

Mass of Christian Burial be held on Friday, February 24, 2012, 2:00pm, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
