Introducing the Biblical Worldview
Presenter: Fr. Antonio O. Moreno
Bible course description: “Covenant” is the master concept that unlocks the meaning of the Bible. The Bible tells the story of God, the Father’s love for His children and His plan to fashion all people into one holy family. God unfolds this plan of salvation through a series of covenants, culminating in the New Covenant He makes in Jesus.
We will look at God’s plan. We will study the five key covenants God makes in the Old Testament in order to see how they are fulfilled in Jesus and the Church.
Registration: Free! “Come and See…” (Jn. 1:46) Bible series is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, presented by Fr. Antonio O. Moreno, in responds to Pope Benedict XVI’s call to open the door of faith (from his Apostolic Letter “Porta Fidei” for the induction of the Year of Faith -11 Oct 12, the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, and it will end on the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King, on 24 Nov 13). 11 Oct 13 also marks the twentieth anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This is a Catholic Bible Study for all who are interested in learning how the Catholic Church reads the Holy Scriptures. All are welcomed (18 years and up).
Bible Study Lessons Ojective:
A. To learn the importance of God’s covenants for understanding and interpreting the Bible
B. To understand the difference between the biblical idea of “covenant” and our modern notions of “contract”.
C. To learn the five key covenants of the Old Testament, be able to locate them in the Bible, and understand how they are fulfilled in Jesus and the Catholic Church.
Materials need:
A. The Bible (recommend the New American Bible-Revised edition)
B. Recommend you read the book by Scott Hahn; A Father who keeps His Promises, which covers much of the material to be studied in this Lenten 2012 “Come and See…” Bible Study.
Agape/Fellowship: You are welcome to stay after the Bible Study sessions and share your favorite pot-luck snack.
