Image
Catholic PRWire Where can Catholic moviegoers turn for reliable information on current films from a faithful Catholic perspective? This summer, they can tune into REEL FAITH, a weekly, half-hour movie review program, now in its second season, always available online at www.netny.net/reelfaith/ Returning as co-hosts are David DiCerto, former film critic of the U. Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller receives Pallium in Rome

Image
Pope Benedict XVI conferred the Pallium on Archbishop Gustavo along with archbishops from 25 countries. The pope placed the pallium, a stole made from lamb's wool, around the shoulders of the archbishop as he knelt before the Holy Father. In his sermon, the pope said the pallium signified the "yoke of friendship with Christ," the pastoral duty to be a shepherd and communion with the pope. View slide show

Pope to launch Vatican news portal on June 28

Image
Access website: news.va Vatican City, Jun 27, 2011 ( CNA/EWTN News ) On June 28, Pope Benedict XVI will launch the Vatican's first multimedia news portal, which is also designed for mobile devices. “We are trying to give everybody an opportunity to have Vatican news immediately in a modern and accessible way, using new technology,” said Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, in an interview with CNA on June 27. He explained that the Pope will have the privilege of giving the “first click” to take the site online, a reflection of the way Pope Pius XI inaugurated the transmission of Vatican Radio 80 years ago. One of the most notable new features of www.news.va will be its integration with social networks, and a design geared toward mobile devices such as the iPad. “This is a new approach for us,” Archbishop Celli noted. The new information source will highlight the Pope's travels, acts and teachings. It will

Every Knee Shall Bow - Flash Mob - Jesus Christ is in every book of the Bible

Image
The video features two Capuchin Franciscan friars who bring the body of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist right into the center of Preston, England’s marketplace. While one friar recites a litany of Christ’s titles, the other friar holds up Christ in the monstrance. The monk who is speaking into the amplifier repeatedly says, “Come and kneel before Him now,” and it’s truly beautiful to see people in the midst of their shopping, stopping to kneel before the Lord. “Jesus Christ is in every book of the Bible. In Genesis, Jesus is the Seed of the Woman. In Exodus, He is the Passover Lamb. In Leviticus, He is the Priest, the Altar, and the Lamb of Sacrifice. In Numbers, He is a Pillar of Cloud by day and the Pillar of Fire by Night. In Deuteronomy, Jesus is the Prophet, like Moses. Come and kneel before Him now. In Joshua, Jesus is the Captain of Our Salvation. In Judges, He is our Judge and Lawgiver. In Ruth, He is our kinsman Redeemer. In 1 and 2 Samuel, He is our

Reflection of Father Moreno's Homily: June 26, 2011

Image
Today is the Feast of Corpus Christi, The Body and Blood of Christ. Father Moreno related that on Tuesday he was preparing for today’s homily, he was reading the book written by Pope Benedict XVI entitled: Jesus of Nazareth and then the phone rang. He couldn’t find his phone and then he remembered he had left his phone charging in the kitchen but by the time he went to get it there was already a voice message on the phone. And so the person who had called him and he were playing phone tag. In order to clear his head he went walking and praying. He picked up his Bible and it flipped out of his hands with all the holy cards he kept there of all the people who had died and he had promised to pray for were scattered all over the floor. There were the holy cards of his mother, his two brothers and his sister. As he picked up the holy cards memories started to flood his mind immensely, the memories are very real.   The card of his mother brought back memories that were very present,

Independence Day Novena: June 26 - July 4

Image
As the United States of America approaches the Fourth of July Independence Day celebration, Priests for Life invites all believers to join in saying the following prayer each day from June 26 through July 4. God our Father, your Son Jesus spoke to us a message of peace and taught us to live as brothers and sisters. His message took form in the vision of our Founding Fathers, as they fashioned a nation where all people might live as one. This message lives on in our midst as a task for us today and a promise for tomorrow. We thank you, Father, for your blessings in the past, and for all that, with your help, we must yet achieve. Bless our nation and bless each of us. As we celebrate our independence, may we extend its blessings to our youngest brothers and sisters, the children in the womb. Hasten the day when our nation will be a nation with liberty and justice, not just for some, but for all, through Chr

Afterwords: Twenty (20) Jewels about Jesus

Image
1.       Jesus is not a jailer who locks us up and throws away the key; rather Jesus is a janitor who mops up our messes and washes us clean. 2.       Jesus becomes real and visible to us when we become real and visible to others. 3.       Jesus is seen in His “most distressing disguise” of the mentally ill. 4.       Jesus loves everyone through us. 5.       Jesus in Mary’s Womb; be with all the babies in their mother’s womb. 6.       Instead of working in a dead-end job, work for the living-eternal Jesus . 7.       May we stop taking each day for granted and start fixing our eyes on Jesus . 8.       Pray not be bombarded with anti-Christian propaganda and not to give Jesus the “silent  treatment. 9.       Shared belief, homily, song, social interaction and scripture relieve our anxiety and bring us to Jesus because we can’t get there on our own. 10.   Jesus breathes courage and forgiveness into our confused and frightened  lives. 11.   Shopaholics: Shop with t

Afterwords: Seventeen (17) Statements about sin

1) Confession: The prompt and proper disposal of sin. 2) A torrent of terribly tortuous tempttions does not a single sin make. 3)   Instead of correctly confessing sins, our culture confusingly celebrates sins. 4)   Rejoice to be no longer slaves of satan in slavery to sin.   Rejoice to be saved by Our Savior and sanctified by the Spirit. 5)   Saints are sinners who sought a Savior who saved them from their sins. 6)   When we surround ourselves with sinners, we will soon find ourselves in hell. When we surround ourselves with saints, we will soon find ourselves in heaven. 7)   Every saint follows their own road to heaven and every sinner follows their own road to hell. 8) satan smiles when we sin; don’t give him a reason to smile. 9)   To admit our failures, sins and weaknesses is to admit we are lost and in need of a Savior, that we are captive and in need of a Redeemer. 10) Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament: Divine Intervention for the hurting-sinful-wounded sou
