DEL RIO • St. Joseph Parish, in coordination with Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Guadalupe churches, is hosting a youth mission and concert December 2-4 in order to reach teens through the new evangelization.
On Tuesday, December 2, and Wednesday, December 3, talks for the youth will be held at 7 p.m. each evening in the St. Joseph’s Parish Hall at 510 Wernett St.
The presentations will be given by representatives of the Sol Vocational Institute (SVI) from Washington, D.C.
The (SVI) is a ministry of the Diocesan Laborer Priests, whose goal is to accompany the processes of vocational discernment of teenagers and young adults through workshops, encounters, retreats and celebrations.
A specialized team of youth and vocational ministry leaders conduct each workshop.
Workshops are directed by two specialists in a given subject, experts in the areas of theology, anthropology, sociology, pedagogy and moral theology.
Speakers at the Del Rio event will be Father Juan A. Puigbo, director of the SVI, and Carmen Briceno, director of Youth Ministry for SVI.
The subject for December 2 is “Sex and the City of God".
Rooted in the “Theology of the Body” of Pope John Paul II, this workshop is designed for teens who seek a better understanding of the true meaning of sex and sexuality as a gift from God, all in a youthful atmosphere, with music, lights, projections and multimedia.
Topics include Meaning of life, Language of the Body, History of Sex, Beauty of the Body, Sex Created in Heaven, Reality Check, Dating, Authentic Friendship, Truth and more.
On December 3 the focus is on “MySpace in God’s Place”.
MySpace, Facebook, Hi5 are spaces to make virtual friends.
This workshop was created to teach teenagers how to include the true friend in all the spaces of your personal life.
Topics will cover the God and Bad of Virtual Reality, the Truth, Online Friends, True Space and God’s Space.
CURTIS STEPHAN CONCERT
A concert with World Youth Day artist Curtis Stephan is scheduled for Friday, December 4, 7 p.m. at the Del Rio Civic Center, 1915 Veterans Boulevard.
Opening band for the event is Tongues of Fire.
Stephan tours frequently, bringing his cutting edge music and ministry to a variety of venues across the country.
Winner of the 2006 Unity Award for New Artist of the Year, he is currently director of music ministry at St. Ann Church in Coppell, a parish with a stunning 23,000 members.
With the release of his debut CD “Through the Storm”, his ministry now expands to a wider audience.
Concert tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door and free T-shirts will be given to the purchasers of the first 200 tickets.
