November 13 & 14, 2014: Running of the Silver Rose Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 2687
Running of
the Silver Rose
This Project was
started by the Columbian Squires, the youth branch of the Knights of Columbus,
in 1960.
Squires ran a
real rose from Canada through the United States to the Basilica of Our Lady of
Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The project
continued in subsequent years, but with a silver rose crafted by an artist in
Mexico.
In the 90’s the
Knights of Columbus Supreme Council took over the project, and there are now 4
roses that start in Canada, travel through the United States, and arrive in
Monterrey for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12.
The rose that
will arrive in Del Rio on November 12, is the rose that travels down the west
coast of the United States.
