A retired educator from Del Rio, Texas cares about the San Antonio elections by Marian Casillas, Ed.D.

Why does a retired educator from Del Rio, Texas, care about the San Antonio elections?

Well, I for one, care very much because while growing up our family traveled to San Antonio visiting extended family members, experiencing enjoyable shopping excursions, and reveling in the latest entertainment and recreational adventures the city had to offer.

In the mid-1970’s I attended Incarnate Word College, now the University of the Incarnate Word, where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, and then in the early 1980’s Our Lady of the Lake University receiving my Master of Education degree in School Guidance and Counseling.

I worked as an elementary school teacher in the San Antonio ISD and as a Student Teacher Supervisor at UTSA.

Now retired and living in Del Rio, I travel to San Antonio primarily for my specialist’s appointments.

San Antonio has always held a very special place in my heart and it saddens me that the citizens seem apathetic and disillusioned with exercising their God-given right to vote, given the extremely low voter turnouts.

They are giving up and allowing a handful of people to make decisions for them.

It seems that these decisions have been detrimental and deleterious to the morals and values that the majority of people in San Antonio hold as their core beliefs and foundational principles.

They are allowing a small, fringe, radical element to decide the future of San Antonio, namely the LGBTQIA+ community, of which Gina Ortiz Jones is a strong proponent and protagonist.

She is endorsed by the Stonewall Democrats of San Antonio. The name refers to the infamous Stonewall Riots which led to the formation of gay pride parades, drag queen story hours for children in libraries, and men identifying as women allowed in women’s bathrooms, locker rooms, and competitive sports.

The Stonewall legacy continues to proliferate as a highly aggressive and politically manipulative LGBTQ+ community that seeks to infiltrate all areas and aspects of society by being out and open with their sexual proclivities, especially spreading their propaganda to innocent and vulnerable children.

We all know that San Antonio has strong foundational Christian roots, from the patron saint the city is named after, San Antonio de Padua, to the historical missions that established the firm faith that has continued to flourish and remain fruitful throughout the generations.

That same spirit needs to once again motivate and manifest itself in the people of faith showing up at the polls to vote for pro-life, liberty, marriage, family, legitimate defense, and free markets.

Honor veterans by voting, they served to protect our freedoms!
