Image

Checks may be mailed to: Catholic Charities, Archbishop’s Prayer Breakfast 202 W. French Place, San Antonio TX 78212 Why are checks made to CCOSA and not Archdiocese? Each person at table $81.50. Kinda costly breakfast!  Is it to make it exclusive and keep the riff-raff away? https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1290868755351303 Catholic Charities President and CEO, J. Antonio Fernandez spoke to  KENS 5 & Kens5.com  alongside Alison Cochrane, President and CEO of Catholic Community Foundation to discuss the event’s importance and impact on our community. In the video J. Antonio Fernandez said the speaker "will talk to us as human beings"!?! The Coalition for Canceled Priests does have single dinner tickets! Their schedule includes Rosary, Closing Prayer, and two speakers dressed as priests.  God bless the Coalitio...

True meaning of Memorial Day

Image
Remember their Sacrifice by CatholicVote Let’s take a moment to remember why we have Memorial Day. Let’s give thanks – and pray for – the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice…   Dying  in defense of all we hold dear.   As the great G.K. Chesterton said: “The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.”   The U.S. bishops have shared a special  Prayer for Memorial Day:   God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride. Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears, that we may all deserve to be called your sons       and daughters. Keep in your mercy those men and women who have died in the cause of freedom and bring them safely into your kingdom of justice and peace. We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord.   R/. Amen   Let us never forget to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.   May they rest in ...

Missing Man Table Tribute

Image
Personal reflection: Beautiful tribute! “The Bible represents the strength gained through faith to sustain those lost from our country, founded as one nation under God.” Amen. Entrusting the souls of the military personnel who died while serving our country to the loving mercy of Almighty God. God bless Las Palapas Restaurant in San Antonio, Texas.

It's only a pious thought, don't treat it as papal infallibility!

A retired educator from Del Rio, Texas cares about the San Antonio elections by Marian Casillas, Ed.D.

FamilyVoterGuide.org Why does a retired educator from Del Rio, Texas, care about the San Antonio elections? Well, I for one, care very much because while growing up our family traveled to San Antonio visiting extended family members, experiencing enjoyable shopping excursions, and reveling in the latest entertainment and recreational adventures the city had to offer. In the mid-1970’s I attended Incarnate Word College, now the University of the Incarnate Word, where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, and then in the early 1980’s Our Lady of the Lake University receiving my Master of Education degree in School Guidance and Counseling. I worked as an elementary school teacher in the San Antonio ISD and as a Student Teacher Supervisor at UTSA. Now retired and living in Del Rio, I travel to San Antonio primarily for my specialist’s appointments. San Antonio has always held a very special place in my heart and it saddens me that the citizens seem apathetic and disillusioned...

Mass for Persons with Disabilities? Don't we all have some abilities and not some other abilities?

Image
Personal reflection: “This sensory-friendly liturgy will include softer music, shorter Mass readings, and a stigma-free environment.” Shouldn’t all liturgies be spiritually-friendly instead of sensory-friendly? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all liturgies included softer music, like Gregorian chant? With the preponderance of mass media and especially social media; we all seem to have developed shorter attention spans and therefore shorter Mass readings and homilies seem to be the norm. The average TikTok video length is generally considered to be between 30 and 60 seconds. In 2018 Pope Francis urged priests to keep homilies under 10 minutes.  Shouldn’t all liturgies be a stigma-free environment? And even it is not stigma-free; do we attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass to be approved by the congregation or to be approved by Christ?   “Bring any calming toys, fidgets, or accessories that might help with comfort and sensory regulation.” Won’t ther...
