Little Red Riding Hoodie! by Marian Casillas, Ed.D.

Once there was a little girl who always wore her little red hoodie when she went out riding on her red bike, so everyone called her Little Red Riding Hoodie.

One morning, Little Red Riding Hoodie asked her mother if she could go to visit her big brother who lived just down the street.

"That's a wonderful idea," her mother replied.  So together they filled a backpack full of goodies so Little Red Riding Hoodie could take to her big brother.

Remember her mother cautioned, “Wash your hands, wear your mask and watch out and stay six feet apart.”

A few minutes later, Little Red Riding Hoodie knocked on her big brother’s door.

When Little Red Riding Hoodie saw her big brother, she could scarcely recognize him as he was wearing an N95 mask, a face shield and gloves. But that wasn’t what startled her.

"But big brother, what big ears you have!" asserted Little Red Riding Hoodie.

"The better to hear all the conversations you have and everything you listen to on you digital devices."

"But big brother, what big eyes you have!" declared Little Red Riding Hoodie.

"The better to see everything you do and everything you watch on your digital devices."

"But big brother, what a big smile you have painted on your mask," exclaimed Little Red Riding Hoodie.

"The better to fool you into thinking I’m genuinely sincere and truly care about you, especially your health, safety and well-being."

Almost too late, Little Red Riding Hoodie realized that he was not the big brother she once knew and loved, instead he had become a radicalized, ruthless, new world order tyrant.

She ran out the door, shouting: “Help!   Save me!" as loud as she could but her cries were muffled by the mask she was mandated to wear.

Unfortunately, no freedom-loving, patriotic, constitutional conservatives could hear her cries as she ran towards her apartment as fast as her little legs could carry her, having left her beautiful red bike behind in her desperate desire to depart.

Unfortunately, there was no one to run big, bad brother out-of-town, and have him never to return.

Poor Little Red Riding Hoodie, anxious and alarmed by the entire authoritarian experience, she was left shaken and scared by the horrible totalitarian situation she had encountered.

There was no one to rescue her from the terrifying monster that her big brother had become, and she knew that the bigger and bolder version of her big brother would continue to take advantage of innocent and vulnerable people if they did not quickly realize what was happening to them.

Little Red Riding Hoodie and her mother had a long chat about how to help others not believe all the falsehoods, deceptions and lies that all of the big brothers around them were telling them, ending up eventually losing all their once cherished freedoms.
