Letter to the Editor, Wedding Cake Conundrum Adam, Eve, Madam and Steve walk into Chappie’s Bakery at the same time. Mr. Chappie: How can I help you? Adam responds, “We would like to order a double couple wedding cake.” Mr. Chappie: Do you mean that you want two wedding cakes, one for each couple? Steve: No, we want one wedding cake with two couples on top of the cake. Madam and I are a couple and Adam and Eve are a couple and all four of us will be getting married. Mr. Chappie: Sure, I can put as many couples on a wedding cake that you want. That’s no problem. Eve: But do you believe in double couple weddings? Mr. Chappie: Does it matter what I believe? Madam: We think so. We want the baker who bakes our wedding cake to bake it with love and affection to celebrate our union of commitment. Mr. Chappie: Well in that case I have to be honest. I believe only one couple should get married. Eve: Thank you, but we will be

Letter to the Editor, Politics vs. Pop culture Last semester Cathi and Evan were taking United States History I class with Professor Hago at Southern Desert State University (SDSU) and their assignment was to interview undergraduate students about their knowledge of past and current United States historical events. They decided to do a “man on the street” type interview video, like the ones on TV talk shows and YouTube. The undergraduate students they interviewed in the college courtyard were a diverse group: female and male; African American/Black, Caucasian/White, and Hispanic/Latino; with majors in Accounting, Biology, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, English Literature, History, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Nursing, Psychology and Teacher Education. Cathi asked a United States History question about the past, “Who won the Civil War?” First: (Silence, no response.) Second: We did, the South. Third: The one i

He founded a worldwide organization for Catholic laity that drew inspiration from St. Louis Marie de Montfort's Marian classic "True Devotion to Mary". The organization would be dedicated to prayer, works of mercy, and apostolic endeavors under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. In fact, he was part of the "New Evangelization" before that term was coined -- yet he was neither a Pope, a bishop, nor a priest, but a layman. On June 11, EWTN presents a half-hour documentary on the remarkable life and times of Legion of Mary Founder and Servant of God Frank Duff. "Frank Duff: A Model of Catholic Laity" airs 5:30 p.m. CT, Thursday, June 11 . Duff was born to civil servant parents John and Susan Duff in Dublin, Ireland in 1889. The eldest of seven children, young Frank would follow in his parent's footsteps into the same career. At age 24, Duff began his involvement in church ministry, v

Letter to the Editor, Rousing Repartee At the Lab Rats Center, the first Genetically Engineered Modified (GEM) rat and the first Robotic Artificial Intelligence (RAI) rat are housed in adjoining cages. RAI is stomping back and forth in his cage, “Who does he think he is saying that rats should be banned from colleges and universities?” His next door neighbor GEM inquisitively tries to ascertain, “Who and what are you spouting off about now?” RAI explosively expounds, “I heard in the news that so called comedian Wheel Barrell, says that rats have no place on college campuses. I say, so called comedian, because his movies aren’t that great and he isn’t that funny. My intelligent memory bank tells me that this is still a free country and we can go anywhere we want to go. We have every right to go to colleges and universities if we want to.” GEM shakes her head in disbelief, “He said FRATS, meaning fraternities, sh
