Touched by God's Love

Touched by the love of God, we want to grow in our faith, our hope, and our love. True faith is to believe when there is absolutely no sign of God. True hope is to trust when there is no palpable assurance that God is at work and that everything will turn out beautifully. True love is to give when nothing at all comes back. God withdraws his clear presence and warm feelings precisely so that our faith, our hope and our love might become more genuine. All our experiences of love are experiences of God. It is God who gives to us. It is God who cherishes and appreciates us. It is God who comforts and challenges us. We can create, as God creates. We can love, as God loves. God loves through us, and thus we become the visible embodiment of God’s loving action. It is love that heals us. It is love that encourages us, freeing us to be ourselves. It is love that makes us grow. It is love and love alone that makes life meaningful. It is love we must hunger and thirst for. We know how deep and p

Divine Mercy Message

The message of Divine Mercy is nothing new, but is a reminder of what the Church has always taught through scripture and tradition: that God is merciful and forgiving and that we, too, must show mercy and forgiveness. The message of mercy is that God loves us, all of us, no matter how great our sins. He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. All will come to share His joy. It is a message we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC. A — Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. B — Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C — Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our tr

A Fond Farewell

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1) We respectfully request the publication of a final farewell article, due to the editorial board policy change requiring a photo, which is prohibited by the Official Handbook of the Legion of Mary. No seeking of self: spiritual sanctity and service with the spirit and solicitude of Mary. God opens doors; God closes doors. Seven years ago God opened this door and today God has closed this door. “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." (Job 1:21) Recently deceased member and past president of The Legion of Mary, Edelmira (Mache) Rubio, contacted the Del Rio News-Herald and our first article was published in 2001, calling our community to pray the Rosary for Peace after the “911” national tragedy. May our sister in Christ, rest in peace and may eternal light shine upon her. This has been a collective, collaborative and cooperative work of

The Passion

The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ is a powerful experience that pierces and permeates into our innermost being, affecting us to the core of our heart, mind and soul. The Passion is a powerfully heartrending experience. We are eyewitness from beginning to end. The sights and sounds in the spectacle of an innocent man of peace envelop us, Jesus Christ, betrayed and abandoned, scourged and crucified. The violence is graphic and grotesque, which causes us to want to cringe and cower. There are images which affect each one of us personally. Both exteriorly and interiorly, we manifest how greatly we are moved. The juxtaposition of the horrendous pain and suffering of the Passion is interspersed with touching, poignant, memorable moments along the Way. This reflects the reality of life, that all life is full of joys and sorrows, light and darkness, truth and lies, happiness and sadness, laughter and tears. The Blessed Virgin Mary follows her son to his execution. Only by the grace of God,
