A Fond Farewell
“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
We respectfully request the publication of a final farewell article, due to the editorial board policy change requiring a photo, which is prohibited by the Official Handbook of the Legion of Mary. No seeking of self: spiritual sanctity and service with the spirit and solicitude of Mary.
God opens doors; God closes doors. Seven years ago God opened this door and today God has closed this door. “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." (Job 1:21)
Recently deceased member and past president of The Legion of Mary, Edelmira (Mache) Rubio, contacted the Del Rio News-Herald and our first article was published in 2001, calling our community to pray the Rosary for Peace after the “911” national tragedy. May our sister in Christ, rest in peace and may eternal light shine upon her.
This has been a collective, collaborative and cooperative work of all the members made possible through prayer, fellowship and spiritual readings at our weekly meetings.
Thanks be to God, an article was sent in every week, sometimes it was published, sometimes it was not, but we did our part and left the rest to God. “He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30)
By God’s grace and Mary’s prayerful intercession the Legion of Mary recently celebrated the 62nd Anniversary of its establishment in Del Rio on March 22 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, where active and auxiliary members re-dedicated themselves to humbly and obediently fulfilling God’s mission and ministry.
Our most heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the Del Rio News-Herald staff, our fellow contributors and all who have read our articles. Our prayers for all of you will continue. God's graces are generously given; His benevolent blessings are bestowed.
