August 23, 2020: West is "Woke"! * Letters to the Editor * OPINION * Del Rio News-Herald

Letter to the Editor, West is “Woke”! Multi-millionaire, singer and songwriter Kanye West is running for President on a platform where he proclaims the beauty of faith, the goodness of family and the truth of freedom. The progressives desecrate, denigrate and detest those concepts. They desecrate religion because they are atheists, who only believe in themselves and the power of government. They denigrate the nuclear family of father, mother and children because they seek alternative lifestyles that free them from the commitment of marriage and the responsibility of raising children in a safe and secure nurturing environment. And ultimately they detest the tenets of liberty because they seek to impose their mandates on everyone and squelch the dissenting voices because there is no diversity or tolerance of thinking, speaking or behaving that does not adhere to their thoughts, words or deeds. Kanye is no longer carrying their water for them; he has truly seen the light of day, he ...

August 16, 2020: Bernie and Beto are back * Letter to the Editor * OPINION * Del Rio News-Herald

Letter to t he Editor, They’re back: Bernie and Beto “Surprise, surprise, surprise!” as the lead character from the television show “Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C” would often exclaim. Guess who’s going to be showing up at the upcoming 2020 Democratic National Convention, it’s none other than the Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders. Some might have thought we had heard the last of him, but with the rise of the radical left throughout the country, this bad boy is making quite a comeback.  The leftists love their bad boys.  Biden will announce Bernie’s possible appointment to a cabinet post in his future Administration. Bernie is such a bad boy that he honeymooned in Communist Soviet Union. That’s how much he loves Communism. When he was mayor of Burlington, Vermont, their sister city was Yaroslavl, Russia and this was during the Cold War era. He’s such a bad boy some might even refer to this an act of treason.  But not the young college students who rack-up an exorbitant amount of de...

Janet Morana: Why This Pro-Life Catholic Is Voting for Trump

Janet Morana: Why This Pro-Life Catholic Is Voting for Trump   July 21, 2020 1,454   At the beginning of the 2016 election cycle, if someone had told me I would be casting a ballot for Donald Trump, I would have doubted their sanity. I’m a native New Yorker, born and bred in Brooklyn, and I was well-acquainted with the Trump’s high-flown and sometimes messy lifestyle from the papers and tabloids. But I didn’t really have to have an opinion on Trump because we inhabited different worlds. As the 2016 campaigns ground on, I discovered things about Trump that I hadn’t known – his intense patriotism, for one thing – and I knew I would vote for whatever candidate the Republicans came up with to challenge Hillary Clinton, who would have been a disaster for our nation. Naturally, I was thrilled when he won. I attended his inauguration and was impressed by his America-first speech. I had high hopes that even if he fulfilled half his promises, America w...

Eight (8) Point Game Plan for Catholics in Response to Persecution by Hordes and Mobs By Dr. Taylor Marshall   1)     We need to take up space. 2)     We need bigger, mature men. 3)     We need bigger groups. 4)     We need to defend and protect our clergy at all costs. 5)     We need to prevent vandalism. 6)     We need to build protection around our Catholic spaces. 7)     We need to pray peacefully, especially the Rosary. 8)     We can win only with Jesus!   Pray for God to protect us physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.

August 9, 2020: Persecution: Then and Now * Letters to the Editor * OPINION * Del Rio News-Herald

Letter to the Editor, Persecution: Then and Now   Who would have thought that when we were watching the movie “For Greater Glory: The True Story of Cristiada” released in 2012, that eight years later we would be living in our own Cristero times? The Cristeros War (1926-1929) took place in Mexico when the Catholic Church was being persecuted by the government. The movie portrays the epic struggle of brave and spirited men and women who fought under the patronage of Christ the King and their battle cry was “Viva Cristo Rey” which means “Long Live Christ the King”. We sat in the movie theatre comfortably watching the scenes on the screen unfold before us as we viewed heroic Catholics defend the Church they loved and laid down their lives for. We were so smug and so sure of ourselves, that we took for granted, we lived in a country where freedom of religion was respected as the law of the land and we were free to worship according to the teachings and truths of Our...
