Calling all Catholics: Come to the aid of your ailing Mother by Marian Casillas, Ed.D.

Compare the Gym at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish with the Parish Hall at Saint Joseph Parish and the John Patrick Stotle Community Center at Sacred Heart Parish.

Compare the Grotto at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish with the Grottos at Saint Joseph Parish and Sacred Heart Parish.

Compare the grounds around Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish with the grounds around Saint Joseph Parish and Sacred Heart Parish.

Why has the oldest and most beautiful Catholic Church in the city of Del Rio been left to deteriorate and be summarily dismissed by not being compassionately cared for and lovingly maintained? Is this considered to be fair and equitable by the Archbishop?

Instead of sending money to the Archbishop’s Appeal, use the money for the remodeling and upgrading of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.

The entire Catholic Community of Del Rio, from all three (3) parishes, is being challenged to commit to the restoration and revitalization of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, facilities and parish grounds.

Instead of sending your donation to the Archbishop’s Appeal, inform the Archbishop that you will contribute to enhancing and elaborating the beauty, goodness and truth of the Catholic Church which is so extraordinarily exemplified in the majestic and magnificence of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Let him know that what you would have sent or what you have sent in previous years, you now chose to give it to be utilized exclusively for the enhancement and improvement of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, facilities and parish grounds.

If we honor and love Mary, the Mother of God and our Mother also, as God honors and loves Her; let us show it not only in words but in deeds. Like all good children who see their mother who is distraught and in disarray, will drop everything and immediately come to support and serve her; likewise, we as the loving sons and daughters of Mary will come to Her aid and assistance in Her time of need.

Let us keep Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, facilities and parish grounds as beautiful as her namesake deserves. Let us keep our Holy Family of Churches: Jesus (Sacred Heart Catholic Church), Mary (Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church) and Joseph (Saint Joseph Catholic Church) alive and well.

At a time throughout the world when Catholic churches are being destroyed and desecrated, let us evermore faithfully and lovingly chose to restore and re-consecrate the public spaces to give glory, honor, and praise to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the angels and saints.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas and Protectress of the Preborn, we love you, pray for us!
