Friends and Faithful San
Antonians.
A year ago, this past May, we recall
the tragedy at Robb Elementary School and the suffering of our neighbors in
Uvalde. Since then, I have continually visited there to bring comfort and
prayer to their hearts.
I remember a family I went to visit and how accompaniment, prayer, and care in
silence brought some peace and consolation to them.
They remind me that we need each other to heal.
We need each other to get better.
This month, San Antonians and other
neighbors from 14 cities across the United States are gathering to learn and
work as much larger compassionate community because we all know we are better
together.
Mejores Unidos.
I encourage you to attend this year's Pathways to Hope Mental Wellness
conference at the beautiful Tobin Center in downtown San Antonio, August 25th
and 26th.
The conference is free and it will be
a missed opportunity if our congregations and communities are not there.
Please race there to attend Pathways to Hope.
Personal
reflection:
We are
Christians, and as believers and followers of Christ we must preach Christ in
season and out of season.
“I charge
you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and
the dead, and by his appearing and his kingly power: proclaim
the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient; convince,
reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching. For
the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine but, following
their own desires and insatiable curiosity, will accumulate teachers and will stop listening to the truth and will be diverted to
myths. But you, be self-possessed in all circumstances;
put up with hardship; perform the work of an evangelist; fulfill your ministry.”
2 Timothy 4: 1-5
The most
important thing the Archbishop did was to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
for the souls of the deceased and for the consolation in Christ and heavenly hope for their grieving family
and friends.
We need
Jesus to heal us.
We are to
come together as the Body of Christ.

God gives
the graces of intelligence, skill, and talent to psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists,
and counselors in the mental health profession to assist in helping people with
mental health issues; but ultimately and unequivocally God is the Ultimate
Healer.
