Spotlight on the Power of the Litany of the Saints and the Litany of Loreto by Pray and Fast for America
Spotlight on the Power of the Litany of the Saints and the Litany of Loreto
These ancient prayers—the Litany of the Saints and the Litany of Loreto—are two of only six litanies approved for public recitation by the Holy See.
The Litany of Loreto (The Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary)
Approved in 1587 by Pope Sixtus V, this popular prayer of supplication was once prayed in processions to atone for sins and to prevent calamities.
This beautiful litany to the Blessed Virgin Mary dates back to the Middle Ages and has been faithfully prayed by pilgrims at the famous Marian shrine of the Holy House at Loreto, Italy.
It extols many of the virtues of the Blessed Mother, giving her honor and invoking her assistance under many of the titles given to her by the early Church in the first few centuries of Christianity.
Let us once again seek her assistance in atoning for the great sins of our country and protection of our country.
The Litany of the Saints
The Litany of the Saints is an ancient Christian prayer in which the Church militant (the Pilgrim Church, the body of Christian believers on earth), calls upon the Church triumphant (those who are in Heaven) to ask for help for themselves and the Church suffering (those souls in purgatory).
It is a prayer that can be prayed privately or publicly, such as in liturgies or ordination, in Forty Hours' processions, as well as at other occasions, including the Rite of Exorcism.
It is a great comfort to call on our entire Church Family to intercede for us in our battle against evil here on earth as we struggle as soldiers of Christ against sin, the devil, and "the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places,"(Eph.6:12).
Let us ask for the entire Church family to join us in petitioning Our Lady’s intercession to protect America and the world from evil and war.
