Blessed
are the Pure in Heart: The Holy Family

Dear little handmaids and friends,
You could consider this an early Christmas, only 2 pages long.
Through the Holy Spirit, it is a perspective of
the Reason for the Season.
O, come let us Adore Him!

And Mary said, "Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me
according to your word." (Lk 1:38)
“Blessed are the
Pure in Heart”
The Holy Family
A couple weeks ago the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart and mind in the
Silent Voice in which He communicates to me: “Write about purity.” My first
reaction, which was also silent, and wordless, was a reaction of my heart,
which I translate into words: “Are You sure You don’t have the wrong person?
I know nothing about purity.” But, of course, He already knew that. Since
then, He has been teaching me about purity, and has led me to the Holy Family,
who could be called the Purest Family.
“Blessed are the
pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
(Matthew 5:8)
When I think of purity, there are other words anointed for me: desire, believe, obedience, and
“see God”.
Of course, every Catholic who believes in the “fullness of the
truth” found in the Magisterium of the Church believes that the Blessed
Virgin Mary, redeemed by her son Jesus Christ, is the purest creature that God
has created.
Mary is God’s purest creature because of her Immaculate
Conception, which signifies that she was conceived without original sin. She
remained pure because of her perfect desire to do God’s will; her belief in all that God
spoke to her (through the Angel Gabriel, as well as directly to her heart); and
her obedience to all of God’s
commandments. She was chosen because of her obedience to His call.
What creature has ever as clearly seen God? In Jesus she saw God, she tenderly held
Him, she nursed Him, she bathed Him, she taught Him, she comforted Him, and loved Him
with all of her heart, mind, soul, and strength, until His laying in the tomb. And since
then and for all of eternity she loves and cherishes Him in Their perfect Union of Hearts.
It was through the power of the Holy Spirit, her Divine Spouse, that
Jesus was conceived in her womb, that God became Man: Emmanuel, “God is
with us.”
And God also gave her the purest earthly spouse that any woman has
ever had: Joseph Most Chaste, Joseph Most Obedient, Joseph Most Faithful. I marvel at his obedience to God’s
directive to marry the Blessed Virgin Mary, even though she was carrying a
Child who was not his own. I marvel at His belief that the Child that Mary was carrying was
the Son of God. I marvel at His willingness to take Mary as
His wife without receiving the physical pleasure and comfort that most husbands
expect to receive. I marvel at his perfect selflessness.
“Let us love Jesus above all, let us love Mary as Our mother;
but then, how could we keep from loving Joseph, who was so intimately united to
both Jesus and Mary? And how can we honor him better than by imitating his
virtues? Now, what else did he do in all his life but contemplate, study, and
adore Jesus, even in the midst of his daily labors? Behold, therefore, our
model.”
–St. Madeleine Sophie Barat
So, the Heavenly Father provided for His pure Son the purest earthly parents,
whom He deserved, and those parents helped to nurture the purity of Jesus.
“And he went down
with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept
all these things in her heart. And Jesus
increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and man.” (Luke
2:51-52)
