Viva una Herencia de Amor: Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en Del Río, Texas / Long Live a Legacy of Love: Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Del Rio, Texas/

 

La lamentable realidad y para todos los efectos y propósitos, la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe ya no es una iglesia parroquial. Una iglesia parroquial tiene sus propios sacerdotes asignados a ministrar a los parroquianos que pertenecen a esa parroquia en particular, y la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe comparte los sacerdotes de la Parroquia Católica San José. Una iglesia parroquial tiene su propia oficina administrativa donde se lleva a cabo el trabajo de la parroquia, y todo lo que pertenece a la Iglesia Católica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe está siendo dirigido por la Oficina Parroquial de San José.

La Iglesia Católica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe es ahora simplemente un satélite de la Parroquia de San José, una iglesia de misión, como un pobre niño huérfano, rechazado y condenado al ostracismo. Ahora queda por ver si la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe tendrá sus puertas cerradas con llave. Al igual que a los feligreses se les ha dicho que vayan a la Oficina Parroquial de San José para llevar a cabo todos sus asuntos, ¿Se les dirá a los feligreses más adelante que pueden ir a la Iglesia Católica San José si quieren asistir a misa?

¿Hay planes para cerrar la Iglesia Católica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe que se estableció en 1906 y tiene el honor distintivo de ser el edificio católico más antiguo que todavía funciona como una iglesia activa en la ciudad de Del Río? La Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe ha estado sirviendo a los fieles católicos en el área de la fundación original de nuestra ciudad, la comunidad en la vecindad de San Felipe.

En 1895 la Iglesia Católica del Sagrado Corazón fue la primera iglesia católica establecida en Del Río; sin embargo, después de que se construyó la "nueva" iglesia, la antigua iglesia sirvió como el Salón Parroquial del Sagrado Corazón, pero desde la construcción del Centro Comunitario John Patrick Stolte - Oficinas de la Iglesia Católica del Sagrado Corazón y la Capilla de la Adoración, la "vieja" iglesia ahora sirve principalmente como cafetería / comedor para los estudiantes que asisten a la Escuela del Sagrado Corazón. ¿Te imaginas a la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe destripada y despojada, una cáscara de su antigua belleza y gloria, tristemente como la “vieja” Iglesia Católica de Sagrado Corazón?

La segunda iglesia católica que se construyó en Del Río fue la Iglesia Católica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Ahora, después de todos estos muchos años, aproximadamente 115 años de mantenimiento de nuestra iglesia, es simplemente una iglesia de mision que ya no tiene el prestigio de ser una iglesia parroquial y se habla de que el Arzobispo tiene planes para cerrar la iglesia. ¿Por qué elegir la iglesia en la ciudad fronteriza en la parte más pobre de la ciudad, que antes de la pandemia era una iglesia animada, bendita y vibrante en nuestra comunidad?

Ahora puede ser visto por algunos como simplemente "una iglesia pobre en el barrio", pero el edificio de la iglesia tiene el interior más hermoso, exquisito, glorioso, histórico y majestuoso en comparación con las otras dos (2) iglesias católicas arquitectónicamente construidas modernamente que no pueden de ninguna manera compararse con la magnificencia estructural y la incontenible expansividad y expresividad de la eternidad y las verdades trascendentes tal como se exhiben en la Iglesia Católica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe que deja una huella impresionante en todos los que están de pie en su presencia y maravillarse en el asombro y la admiración.

Las influencias demoníacas y la infiltración pueden ser vistas legítimamente como parte de estos esquemas para denigrar la casa de adoración a Dios Todopoderoso que mejor ejemplifica el esplendor y la verdad de las iglesias católicas tradicionales a través de los tiempos.

Parece que el pasado se está siendo sofocado, mientras que a lo moderno y mundano de la era presente se le está dando orgullo de preferencia; fuera con lo viejo, adelante con lo nuevo.

Espero y oro para que la gente en nuestro tiempo presente tenga la fe y fortaleza de nuestros antepasados para continuar luchando contra las fuerzas seculares y fuerzas malignas que buscan destruir el corazón y el alma de los feligreses que asisten a la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.

La Iglesia Católica enseña que debemos ser solidarios con los pobres y oprimidos empoderándolos y elevándolos; no dominarlos con mano fuerte ni aplastarlos para mantener el poder y el control.

¿Se hace el Arzobispo sordo a los gritos del pueblo por favoritismo que está estrechamente relacionado con el nepotismo, ya que el Arzobispo Gustavo es el Padrino del Padre Jaime a quien ha nombrado párroco tanto de la Iglesia Católica San José como de la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe?

En la reunión que el Arzobispo tuvo con los líderes de la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe dijo que los sacerdotes los tuvieron que quitar porque estaban siendo investigados por irregularidades financieras. La auditoría que se realizó exoneró a los sacerdotes de cualquier delito; sin embargo, su buen nombre y reputación no fueron despejados públicamente de ninguna forma o manera, como se hizo manchado en una plataforma muy pública. Dado que el Arzobispo hizo esas afirmaciones en una reunión con los líderes de la iglesia, también debería haber presentado la conclusión de que los sacerdotes no habían sido declarados culpables de ningún abuso financiero también en una reunión con los líderes de la iglesia.

Si el dinero es la única razón dada por el liderazgo de la Arquidiócesis para cerrar la  Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, entonces esa es verdaderamente una respuesta triste y dolorosa de la Iglesia fundada por Nuestro Señor Jesucristo, quien vino con “el mandato de una opción preferencial para los pobres”.

¿La Arquidiócesis solo ve signos de dólares al tomar decisiones?

¿Sólo quieren llenar sus ya rebosantes cajas con más dinero?

¿No están satisfechos con sus cantidades ya exorbitantes de donaciones, propiedades y cuentas bancarias que pagan por sus estilos de vida caros y extravagantes? ¿Deben ahora castigar a las mismas personas que se supone que deben servir como pastores cuando en su lugar están actuando como lobos hambrientos?

Parece que la Arquidiócesis de San Antonio es una institución más que aprovecha la situación provocada por la pandemia al tratar de cerrar o desmantelar una iglesia sobre la que tiene jurisdicción eclesial.

Pero la iglesia pertenece a los feligreses que sus antepasados la construyeron y a lo largo de los años y a través de múltiples generaciones han sostenido y apoyado a la iglesia.

La Arquidiócesis se llevó a nuestros sacerdotes en los peores momentos, en el desarrollo de la pandemia, cuando las iglesias recibieron el mandato dictatorial y tiránico de cerrar sus puertas y nos quedamos atascados e intranquilizados; ovejas sin nuestros Pastores.

Parece que lenta pero seguramente, poquito a poquito, se están arrastrando a lo largo de cerrarnos. ¿Somos solamente ovejas para ser ofrenda como un sacrificio para avanzar algunas señalas y esquemas más grandes, algunos incluso sugiriendo que tal vez el plan a largo plazo es combinar las tres iglesias católicas en Del Río bajo un administrador pastoral? ¿Por qué los boletines de la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y la Iglesia Católica San José tienen los horarios de misas para las tres (3) iglesias católicas en Del Río publicados en su portada?

Humildemente imploro a la gente que ore y le pida a Dios que les dé ojos para ver, oídos para oír y un corazón y una mente para responder apropiadamente de acuerdo con su misión dada por Dios para cumplir Su Santa Voluntad.

¿Puede ser que nuestros líderes espirituales no sean conscientes de la salvación de las almas bajo su cuidado, sino sólo de la satisfacción de sus maneras egoístas y tal vez incluso inmorales? Que Dios tenga misericordia de sus almas. Oremos cada vez más fervientemente por su conversión para que puedan ver el error de sus caminos escandalosos, arrepentirse y regresar a su verdadera misión en la vida.

Los sacerdotes y obispos que se supone que deben servir a la gente, van y vienen, las administraciones de la iglesia y las actitudes cambian; pero es el pueblo de Dios quien compone la vida parroquial de la iglesia, el pulsación del corazón que palpita con su sangre, sudor y lágrimas y el salvavidas que regenera el amor de Dios.

La Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe ha resistido la prueba del tiempo, sobreviviendo a través de la Gran Depresión, a través de las Dos Guerras Mundiales, y milagrosamente de alguna manera escapó de ser totalmente desgarrada y destrozada durante la gran agitación de los cambios provocados por la mala interpretación y mala aplicación del Concilio Vaticano II bajo el pretexto de que estaban siguiendo el "espíritu del Concilio" que lamentablemente tuvo muchas consecuencias no deseadas e irreverentes.

Y a pesar de todo, la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe todavía está aquí hoy ofreciendo consuelo espiritual y apoyo durante este tiempo de la pandemia.

Por la gracia de Dios ha sido un testimonio de la fe de las personas que no sólo han sobrevivido, sino que se han mantenido fuertes con todos sus pastores anteriores alimentándolos, atendiendo sus heridas, llevándolos de vuelta al corral cuando se perdieron, guiándolos a través de todos los terrenos traicioneros y llevándolos a descansar entre pastos lujosos y ríos refrescantes de vida.

Ciento quince (115) años como Parroquia no pueden ser simplemente cancelados por un capricho o un deseo, porque esto es verdaderamente perverso; pero debe ser celebrado con más razón por aquellos que honran y respetan la tradición, las raíces fundacionales de una herencia de amor rico, vibrante y que da vida; amor a Dios y amor al prójimo.

No permitamos que la Parroquia Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe se cuente entre las muchas víctimas del azote de la pandemia. Es el derecho de los feligreses de hacer petición y suplicar a la jerarquía para escuchar nuestras súplicas y con la gracia de Dios para atender nuestra petición. El Derecho Canónico 212.2 establece: "Los fieles cristianos son libres de dar a conocer a los pastores de la Iglesia sus necesidades, especialmente las espirituales y sus deseos". Dar a conocer nuestros deseos de conservar nuestra parroquia en pleno funcionamiento con los sacerdotes asignados a nuestra iglesia y con nuestra propia oficina parroquial.

Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, bajo los títulos de Patrona de las Américas y Protectora de los No Nacidos, invocamos humildemente su intercesión en esta intención que tenemos en nuestro corazón.

Recordemos y respondamos en harmonía con nuestra rica herencia ancestral e histórico lleno de fe y fervor. Invoquemos a nuestra Patrona Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe para que nos ayude a mantener la iglesia que tanto amamos y que le dedicamos porque es nuestra Madre amorosa.

Hablemos ahora antes de que sea demasiado tarde, y luego, lamentablemente, tendremos que vivir para siempre con las ramificaciones de nuestro silencio. Si la iglesia se cierra, entonces podemos decirle a Nuestra Señora que hicimos todo lo posible para mantener abierta su hermosa iglesia para continuar sirviendo a sus hijos más queridos y más cercanos a su corazón.

The unfortunate reality, and for all intents and purposes, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church is no longer a parish church. A parish church has its own priests assigned to minister to the parishioners that belong to that particular parish, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church shares the priests from Saint Joseph Catholic Parish. A parish church has its own administrative office where the work of the parish is conducted, and everything pertaining to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church is being run by Saint Joseph Parish Office.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church is now simply a satellite of Saint Joseph Catholic Parish, a mission church, like a poor, rejected and ostracized orphan child. Now it remains to be seen if Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church will have its doors locked. Just as parishioners have been told to go to Saint Joseph Parish Office to conduct all their business, will parishioners be told later that they can go to Saint Joseph Catholic Church if they want to attend Mass?

Are there plans to close Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church which was established in 1906 and has the distinct honor of being the oldest Catholic building that is still functioning as an active church in the city of Del Rio? Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church has been serving the Catholic faithful in the area of the original founding of our city, the neighborhood community of San Felipe.

In 1895 Sacred Heart Catholic Church was the first Catholic church established in Del Rio; however, after the “new” church was built, the former church served as the Sacred Heart Parish Hall, but since the construction of the John Patrick Stolte Community Center - Offices of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Adoration Chapel, the “old” church now mainly serves as the cafeteria/dining hall for the students attending Sacred Heart School. Can you imagine Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church gutted and stripped out, a mere shell of its former beauty and glory, sadly like the “old” Sacred Heart Catholic Church?

The second Catholic church to be built in Del Rio was Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Now after all these many years, approximately 115 years of maintaining our church, it is merely a mission church no longer with the status of being a parish church and there is talk that the Archbishop has plans to close the church. Why pick on a border-town church in the poorest part of the city, which before the pandemic was a bustling, thriving, vibrant church in our community?

It may now be seen by some as merely “a poor church in the barrio”, but the church building has the most beautiful, exquisite, glorious, historic and majestic interior compared to the other two (2) architecturally modernly-built Catholic churches which cannot in any way compare to the structural magnificence and the overwhelming expansiveness and expressiveness of eternity and the transcendent truths as they are exhibited at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church that leaves an impressive imprint on all who stand in its presence and marvel in awe and admiration.

Demonic influences and infiltration can be rightfully seen as being a part of these schemes to denigrate the house of worship to God Almighty that best exemplifies the splendor and truth of traditional Catholic churches throughout the ages.

It seems that the past is being squelched, while the modern and mundane of the present age is being given pride of preference; out with the old, in with the new.

I hope and pray that the people in our present time will have the faith and fortitude of our ancestors to continue to battle both the secular and evil forces that seek to destroy the heart and soul of the parishioners who attend Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church teaches that we must be in solidarity with the poor and downtrodden by empowering them and uplifting them; not overpowering them with a heavy hand or crushing them in order to maintain power and control.

Is the Archbishop deaf to the cries of the people because of favoritism which is closely related to nepotism, since Archbishop Gustavo is the Godfather of Father Jaime whom he has appointed as pastor of both Saint Joseph Catholic Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church?

At the meeting the Archbishop had with the church leaders of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church he said that the priests had to be removed because they were being investigated for financial irregularities. The audit that was conducted exonerated the priests of any wrongdoing; yet their good name and reputation was not publicly cleared in any form or manner, like it had been smeared in a very public platform. Since the Archbishop made those claims at a meeting with church leaders, he should have also presented the finding that the priests had not been found guilty of any financial abuse also at a meeting with church leaders.

If money is the only reason given by the leadership of the Archdiocese to close Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church then that is truly a sad and sorrowful response from the Church founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ who came with the mandate of “a preferential option for the poor”.

Does the Archdiocese only see dollar signs when making decisions?

Do they only wish to fill their already overflowing coffers with more cash?

Are they not satisfied with their already exorbitant amounts of endowments, property holdings, and bank accounts which pay for their expensive and extravagant lifestyles; must they now punish the very people they are supposed to serve as Shepherds when they are instead acting as ravenous wolves?

It appears that the Archdiocese of San Antonio is yet another institution taking advantage of the situation caused by the pandemic by seeking to shut down or dismantle a church over which it has ecclesial jurisdiction.

But the church belongs to the parishioners whose ancestors built it and throughout the years and through multiple generations have sustained and supported the church.

The Archdiocese took away our priests during the worst of times, at the height of the pandemic when the churches were dictatorially and tyrannically mandated to close their doors and we were left stranded and shocked; sheep without our Shepherds.

It appears that slowly but surely, inch by inch, they are creeping along to shut us down. Are we merely sheep to be slaughtered as a sacrifice to advance some grander plots and schemes, some even suggesting that maybe the long range plan is to combine all three Catholic churches in Del Rio under one pastoral administrator? Why do the bulletins from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Saint Joseph Catholic Church have the Mass schedules for all three (3) of the Catholic churches in Del Rio published on their front cover?

I humbly implore the people to pray and ask God to give them eyes to see, ears to hear and a heart and mind to appropriately respond according to their God-given mission to fulfill God’s Holy Will.

Can it be that our spiritual leaders are not mindful for the salvation of souls under their care, but only for the satisfaction of their selfish and maybe even sinful ways? May God have mercy on their souls. Let us pray ever more fervently for their conversion that they may see the error of their wayward ways, repent and return to their true mission in life.

Priests and Bishops who are supposed to serve the people, come and go, church administrations and attitudes change; but it is the people of God who make up the parish life of the church, the heartbeat that pulsates with their blood, sweat and tears and the lifeline that regenerates the love of God.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church has stood the test of time, surviving through the Great Depression, through the Two World Wars, and miraculously it somehow escaped being totally torn-up and trashed during the great upheaval of changes brought about by the misinterpretation and misapplication of the Second Vatican Council under the guise that they were following the “spirit of the Council” which unfortunately had many unintended and irreverent consequences.

And through it all Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church is still here today offering spiritual solace and support during this time of the Pandemic.

By the grace of God it has been a testament of the faith of the people that have not only survived but have stood strong with all their previous Shepherds feeding them, binding up their wounds, bringing them back into the fold when they were lost, guiding them through all the treacherous terrains and taking them to rest among plush pastures and running rivers of life.

One hundred and fifteen (115) years as a Parish cannot be merely cancelled by a whim or a wish, for this is truly wicked; but it must be more rightly merrily celebrated by those who honor and respect tradition, the foundational roots of a rich, vibrant and life-giving legacy of love; love of God and love of neighbor.

Let us not allow Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish to be counted among the many causalities of the scourge of the pandemic. It is the right of the parishioners to petition and plead with the hierarchy to hear our pleas and with God’s grace to heed our request. Canon Law 212.2 states: “The Christian faithful are free to make known to the pastors of the Church their needs, especially spiritual ones and their desires.” Make known our desires to retain our fully functioning parish with priests assigned to our church and with our own parish office.

Our Lady of Guadalupe under the titles of Patroness of The Americas and Protectoress of The Unborn, we humbly invoke your intercession in this intention we hold most dear to our hearts.

Let us recall and respond in keeping with our rich ancestral and historical legacy filled with faith and fervor. Let us invoke our Patroness Our Lady of Guadalupe to help us keep the church we love so much that was dedicated to her because she is our loving Mother.

Let us speak up now before it is too late, and then unfortunately, we must forever live with the ramifications of our silence. If the church is closed then we can tell Our Lady that we did everything we could to keep her beautiful church open to continue to serve her dearest children closest to her heart.
