Magic mirror by Marian Casillas, Ed.D.

Once upon a time in the land-of-the-free and the home-of-the-brave there lived a Lifelong-Politician-in-Waiting Biden who for years and years would ask his magic mirror who would be the ruler of this fair-land and every time the answer would be, “You, Lifelong-Politician-in-Waiting Biden will be the ruler of this fair-land.”

And he delighted with this answer as he waited and waited until the time came for him to be bestowed the title of ruler of this fair-land.

It was his turn to take his crown and sit upon his throne and be the ruler of this fair-land.

At first all the magic mirrors throughout the land predicted he would win because how could he possibly lose, since the only other contender was the Master Twitterer Trump.

But then he heard some rumblings coming from some magic mirrors that he might lose.

He could not take any chances he might lose, so he called on Trickster and Prankster, the most conniving royal court jesters to do all they could to insure that he would be given the title of ruler of this fair-land. 

They were covert and conning, they were the best tricksters and pranksters in this fair-land.

They tried every trick and every prank that they could think of to interfere with and sabotage the free and fair election for the title of the ruler of this fair-land.

All the village criers shouted from the highest towers, “Lifelong-Politician-in-Waiting Biden will be the best-ruler of this fair-land and Master Twitterer Trump will be the worst-ruler of this fair-land.”

All the royal, loyal reporters went far and wide to read the decree, “Hear ye, Hear ye! Listen and learn! Lifelong-Politician-in-Waiting Biden will be the best-ruler of this fair-land. This is true and everything else is a great big lie.”

But the persevering peasants and suffering serfs shouted all the louder, “We want Master Twitterer Trump to be the ruler of this fair-land.”

Never one to give-up, Lifelong-Politician-in-Waiting Biden continued to cry-out; “Master Twitterer Trump is an illegitimate ruler and a traitor of this fair-land!” All the village criers, all the royal, loyal reporters, and all those in the royal, loyal high court said exactly the same thing.

When Lifelong-Politician-in-Waiting Biden asked his magic mirror, the reply was, “You know full well that Master Twitterer Trump, he is the rightful-ruler of this fair-land because the people have declared it so.” He smashed his magic mirror to smithereens never to hear it speak again, but all the other magic mirrors in this fair-land continued to speak the truth and would not be silenced.
