Community Pride Page Column Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act The United States House of Representatives passed the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act” by a vote of 241-183. Every Republican representative voted in favor of the bill, and all the Democrats voted against it, with six exceptions: among them Henry Cuellar of Texas. The Act “requires any health care practitioner who is present when a child is born alive following an abortion or attempted abortion to: (1) exercise the same degree of care as reasonably provided to any other child born alive at the same gestational age, and (2) ensure that such child is immediately admitted to a hospital. The term "born alive" means the complete expulsion or extraction from his or her mother, at any stage of development, who after such expulsion or extraction breathes, has a beating heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles.” The Act contains actual enfor...

Community Pride Page Column Conversational Café After a hectic work day, Verdad Cuento has an appointment to finally check out what the latest rage is all about. Everyone’s talking about it and she wants to see for herself. She’s come to the Riverville Conversational Café located in the historic downtown section of town, the heart and soul of Riverville. The Riverville Conversational Café is proud to be part of the preservation and promotion of the downtown district. “Welcome to your friendly neighborhood ‘conversational café’’, an attractive, athletic young man greets Verdad at the front entrance and presents her with a small gray metal box with a touch ID pad on top, that only her thumb print will be able to unlock once it is closed. She is instructed to deposit her device. She reluctantly complies because she misses being without her device and in constant contact with her countless companions. This is a “device-free conversational café” where people are seate...

Letter to the Editor, Conversion of a former secularist Noah Faith was raised a secularist, everyone around him was a secularist. Now he has grown so sick and tired of their rejection of religion and their reverence of relativism.   He is drained by their undisguised contempt, with no effort to temper their response with humility or empathy. He is exhausted by their unexamined snobbery and their demeaning condescension. He is fatigued by their hateful name-calling and their standards of supposedly high intelligence. He is jaded by their trendiness, jumping on every leftist liberal bandwagon that comes along and then acting like anyone not on board is an idiot/hater. He is tired of their shallowness.   He is worn-out by their acceptance of vulgarity and obscene irreverence in the cultural milieu.   He likes pop culture as much as the next person, but people who would never raise their kids on junk food seem to think nothing of letting the...
