Letters to the Editor,

Pedicure pundits

Marta Martillo and Torrance Tornillo are sitting side-by-side getting a pedicure. There’s a television screen on the wall in front of them. As they are watching and commenting on the news being broadcast, they are luxuriously enjoying their massage chair, and soaking their feet in a whirlpool of warm and relaxing water.

It is Friday before the Labor Day weekend and the news of the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey dominates the coverage.

News-Anchor: Gas prices are expected to go as high as $2.56 a gallon.

Martillo: The last time I filled my gas tank, it was $2.04 a gallon.

Tornillo: Have you passed by the gas stations and seen all the long lines?

Martillo: Yes, don’t they realize they are wasting gas sitting with their cars running, air conditioners blowing and radios blasting.

Tornillo: Those people don’t trust in God to provide, they panicked.

News-Anchor: Refineries hit by flood waters in Texas will shut down and it will be about a month before they will start working again.

Martillo: I’m sure they have reserves, but they will sure milk it for all its worth. They’ll up the price at the gas pumps and of course because we are so dependent on our gas guzzling vehicles, we will gladly price their high prices.

Tornillo: Wouldn’t it be great if we rebelled against their gas gouging prices and refused to pay and instead we limited our car usage, carpooled or how about biking or walking. Now that would hit them where it hurts.

Martillo: No, I don’t think that’ll ever happen. We’re all just a bunch of wimps.

News-Anchor: Melania Trump is seen wearing stiletto heels as she boards Air Force One to visit the devastated areas adversely affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Martillo: Who cares? She was a model and is used to wearing heels.

Tornillo: Just tell us the First Lady went to visit the areas hit by Harvey, not what she’s wearing.

Martillo: That’s why people don’t trust the media to report the news fully, accurately or fairly.
