Letter to the Editor,
Del Rio March for Life
Mr. Brown has just arrived home, and as he is getting
out of his vehicle he is greeted by his next door neighbor Sr. Blanco.
“Hey there,” Mr. Brown returns the greeting.
“Have you heard about the Del Rio March for Life?” Mr.
Blanco inquisitively inquires.
“No, I didn’t even know Del Rio had a March for Life.
I’ve heard about the March for Life in Washington, D.C. and about the San
Francisco Walk for Life, but this is the first time I hear about the Del Rio
March for Life. Thanks for letting me know. When is it?” Mr. Brown asks.
“It’s going to be on Sunday, January 24th,
the Sunday following the March for Life in Washington, D.C.”, responds Sr.
Blanco as he continues to expound on the details, “It’s scheduled to start at 3:00
p.m., the Hour of Divine Mercy, at Star Park on North Main Street. It will make
its way down South Main Street to arrive at Greenwood Park where the
participants will make their peaceful and prayerful presence felt in the Heart
of Downtown Del Rio, the center of town, the heart and soul of our beautiful
city. At Greenwood Park there will be special invited guest speakers who will
speak about the right to life around 3:30 p.m., among them will be the Coordinator
of the Del Rio March for Life, Eduardo R. Peña, whose topic will focus on Civic
Duty, being that this will be a presidential election year.”
“Great, I’ll put it in my calendar,” enthusiastically responds
Mr. Brown making a mental note to himself not to forget, “and God willing my
family and I hope to be able to make it. I’ll spread the word.”
“Sounds like we have a positive pro-life plan,”
affirmatively announces Sr. Blanco, “and God bless all the pro-life people who
will be participating in this event,” Sr. Blanco continues to elaborate, “so
that we can give witness to the world that Del Rio is proud to be a pro-life city.
Thank God we have such a dedicated young couple like Eddie and Jessica Peña in
our city who are the organizers of the Del Rio March for Life and coordinate
Del Rio for Life (DR4L),” Sr. Blanco gratefully acknowledges. “So,” finally Sr.
Blanco ends his discourse, “Do both our families want to go together to the
March for Life?” generously offers Sr. Blanco who has a large SUV. “Our family
will be attending the Pro-Life Rosary sponsored by The Legion of Mary of the
Del Rio Catholic Community which starts at 2:30 p.m. at Star Park, so let’s
leave at around 2:00 p.m.”
“Sure, sounds great,” Mr. Brown gladly accepts the
kind and generous invitation.
