Letter to the Editor,

Threats to innocent human life

The cause of life is in constant danger in our country under the deferential disguise of so called “choice” for abortion and “compassion” for assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Our national policy of abortion-on-demand through all nine months of pregnancy has been legal since 1973 and currently assisted suicide is legal in five states: California, Montana, Oregon, Vermont and Washington.

All are invited to pray for all human life on December 28 at St. Joseph Church, 510 Wernett St; at 5:30 pm the members of The Legion of Mary will pray the Bilingual Pro-Life Scriptural Rosary and The Litany of Life and at 6:30 pm The Holy Mass for Life will be celebrated.

December 28 is the Memorial of The Holy Innocents, a day designated to remind us of the infant martyrs slaughtered by King Herod as he tried to kill the Newborn King.

King Herod being insecure and fearful of any threat to his throne; a scheming tyrant capable of extreme brutality ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under in order to kill Baby Jesus.

Vulnerable, innocent human life is continuously being threatened by the powerful and influential ruling class.

As we recognize the greatest treasure God put on the earth; a human person; we pray for the courage and commitment to defend the dignity and sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death.

Jesus Christ is the Lord of Life and we humbly beseech His powerful protection and divine directive for the heart and soul of our beloved nation to be transformed into a civilization dedicated to upholding the respect and love that is due to all human life created in the image and likeness of God.

Marian Casillas, Ed.D.
