The Cristero War (also known as "La Cristiada") of 1926 to 1929, was an uprising and counter-revolution against the Mexican government in power at that time. The rebellion was set off by vicious persecutions against the Catholic Church, including anti-clerical laws, desecration of religious objects and churches, and the murder of many priests and religious.
