Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller's THANKSGIVING message in Today's Catholic
The Eucharist, a sacred sign of thanks.
The word Eucharist itself comes from
the Greek word that means “thanksgiving”. In it we celebrate God’s unending love,
his gift of salvation through the death and resurrection of his beloved son,
and our vocation to share this cup of salvation with others. In this sacred
sign of thanks we are fed, but we are given the opportunity to bring the saving
cup to others.
In the words of St. Angela we are told, "If we but paused for a moment to consider attentively what takes place in this Sacrament, I am sure that the thought of Christ's love for us would transform the coldness of our hearts into a fire of love and gratitude."
