Our Lady of Guadalupe Pro-life Prayer - Priests for Life

Image
Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patroness of the Pro-life Movement. In preparation for her Feastday, Priests for Life invites all believers to join in a special novena for life from December 4 through 12th by saying the prayer below. The image of Our Lady, given to St. Juan Diego (whose feast is Dec. 9), shows Mary as pregnant with Jesus. The Aztec Indians, among whom this image circulated, practiced human sacrifice because they believed the gods were against them. This image proclaimed the Gospel that "God is with us" (Emmanuel) and that therefore we can have the hope that gives us the courage to say "Yes" to life, just like Mary did. In our day, the image is helping to end child sacrifice as it is brought to abortion facilities worldwide.        Novena Prayer for Life to Our Lady of Guadalupe ( Click here for Spanish -- En Español ) Oh Mary, Mother of J...

Reflection of Father Moreno's Homily: November 27, 2011

Image
Father Moreno asked the congregation to meditate on these three (3) images during Advent. These are true stories. 1.         A seven (7) year old boy in New Jersey was asked by his mother how he was going to dress up for Halloween and he told her it was a secret. On Halloween he went to school dressed in his costume. The principal called his parents and told them that he was being expelled because his Halloween costume was offensive; the school board was offended, the school administration was offended, the teachers, the parents and the students were all offended because his was dressed like Jesus. The boy said he wanted to be like Jesus. We have to offend, to let others see Jesus in our work, in our lifestyle. To embrace Jesus is offensive to many people. Are we like that little boy in New Jersey: free, innocent, loving, a child of God? Do we want to be like Jesus? 2.       Father Moreno went home for Thanksgiving to...

Afterwords: Replace your fear with GOD'S FAITH

The enemies of God know the power of instilling fear. The friends of God know the power of releasing faith. Fear deals in weakness – our weakness Faith deals in strength – God’s Strength Fear predicts failure and a negative outcome Faith predicts success and a positive outcome

Saint Andrew Christmas Novena - November 30 until Christmas

Image
To help make our Advent more fruitful, an Advent practice or prayer that you and your family can incorporate into your own celebration for years to come is the Saint Andrew Christmas Novena. This popular Advent devotion from years past begins on November 30, the Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle. On this day, we begin the  Saint Andrew Christmas Novena , also known as the Christmas Anticipation Prayer or simply the Christmas Novena. While a novena is technically a nine-day prayer (the word comes from the Latin word for nine,  novem ), the name is sometimes applied to any prayer that we say repeatedly over a series of days. It is prayed 15 times every day from the Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle (November 30) until  Christmas . The prayer is addressed to God the Father and asks Him to grant us our request in honor of the birth of His Son on Christmas. It's an excellent prayer to pray with children, becaus...

Archbishop celebrates his first year of service

Image
Access: Archdiocese of San Antonio "My dear sisters and brothers in the Lord, it almost does not seem possible that it has been a whole year already since we first gathered in prayer in the plaza outside this cathedral on the evening before my installation as your Archbishop. I acknowledged that evening that you undoubtedly wanted to know who I am, what kind of bishop I am, what the future of our local church will be...I told you that this will become clearer as we get to know one another in the days and months and years that lie before us. That first evening I simply wanted to share with you-briefly-my deepest faith and prayer and love for you. You and I have gotten to know one another better. What is truly important, however, is our relationship with God, and our life in Him." View slide show from the Anniversary Mass.   Click here to view slide show.
