Texas Bishops reflect on state's sonogram law, DREAM Act, 10 year anniversary of 9/11 tragedy & fires across Texas

This week the Texas Bishops released a statement expressing disappointment in the US District Court ruling which declared the state's sonogram law unconstitutional. "Especially troubling was the ruling's apparent pitting of a doctor's claims to free speech against a woman's right to comprehensive medical information before consenting to an irrevocable medical procedure affecting her and her unborn child," said the Bishops. Read the statement online here.

During the month of September parishes across the nation will be participating in activities to support the DREAM Act, legislation that allows undocumented immigrant students to access affordable higher education and a pathway to legal status.

As we approach the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy, we pray for all who work for peace and for the protection of our nation. 9/11 reflections from two Texas bishops are included below.

Please also pray for those battling fires across Texas, for those who are displaced or homeless, and for those coming to their aid.
