The Secret of Holiness

You are reading this because you are interested in taking your spiritual life more seriously.

You know that Jesus is the only way to holiness, "I am the way, the truth and the life."

The secret of holiness is constant prayer which is continual contact with the Holy Trinity, "Pray always and do not lose heart". (Luke 18:1)

You want to come to know, love and serve Jesus, this is accomplished by spending a considerable amount of time with him on a regular, daily basis because this is the only true happiness in this life and the vision of God in the next.

Holiness is the work of a lifetime and it requires your determined effort to cooperate with God's loving grace.

If you honestly look at your day, no matter how busy it is, you can usually find that you waste some time each day.

The needless extra cup of coffee you had when you might have been able to pray first thing in the morning before going off to work.

The time wasted watching vapid and inane television programs or in front of the computer that could be used for prayer and meditation leaving plenty of time for reading the bible and reflection.

The commuting time spent listening to the radio in the car that could be used for praying the Rosary.

Breakfast, lunch or dinner time that could occasionally be simplified or omitted by consciously fasting; this would leave time for daily Mass.

The time spent flittering away at the end of the day when you could have done some good spiritual reading, examined your conscience and gone to bed at a fixed time restoring your energy for the next day's battles.

The list goes on. Make up your own. Be honest with yourself, and with God.
