Maya Angelou: The Decision That Changed My Life: Keeping My Baby by Steven Ertelt | LifeNews.com | 5/28/14 3:43 PM Writer and poet Maya Angelou died this morning, according to a family statement. She was found by her caregiver and was reportedly been in poor health and had canceled recent scheduled appearances. Harold Augenbraum, from the National Book Foundation, said that Angelou’s “legacy is one that all writers and readers across the world can admire and aspire to.” But while most people are aware of her professional work, they don’t know Angelou’s personal background as well. Angelou had one son Guy, whose birth was described in her first autobiography, one grandson, and two great-grandchildren. She became pregnant as a teenager and could have sought an illegal abortion but, instead, decided to keep her baby. In an essay that originally appeared in Family Circle magazine, Angelou called that the best decision of her life. That essay appears below: “When...

June 13, 2014: The Covenant of Love Ministry date night St. Joseph Parish Hall 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

COVENANT OF LOVE Created by The Alexander House Apostolate, the Covenant of Love Ministry is more than a ministry; it is a call to action, an initiative, and a resource offered to parishes designed to strengthen marriage ministries or to help build a foundation to create one. This Marriage Ministry works to educate, strengthen, promote, and advocate the splendor, beauty and truth of God’s plan for marriage. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” (Matthew 19:6) But marriage is hard, and too often, couples receive little or no help from their local parish. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops reported that a majority of married couples show a real desire for more marriage enrichment and educational activities at the parish or diocesan level, such as adult faith formation classes, support groups, retreats, and mentoring for coup...

Christ's body was glorified at the moment of his resurrection, as proved by the new and supernatural properties it subsequently and permanently enjoys (Lk 24:31; Jn 20:19,26)." But during the forty days when he eats and drinks familiarly with his disciples and teaches them about the kingdom, his glory remains veiled under the appearance of ordinary humanity (Acts 1:3; 10:41; Mk 16:12; Lk 24:15; Jn 20:14-15; 21:14)." Received in email: Pope's Request

POPE FRANCIS MAKES A REQUEST Weep not for what you have lost, fight for what you have. Weep not for what is dead, fight for what was born in you. Weep not for the one who abandoned you, fight for who is with you. Weep not for those who hate you, fight for those who want you. Weep not for your past, fight for your present struggle. Weep not for your suffering, fight for your happiness. With things that are happening to us, we begin to learn that nothing is impossible to solve, just move forward. THE HOLY FATHER MAKES A REQUEST FOR...

Notes from May 25, 2014: Legion of Mary Spiritual Presentation by Father Antonio O. Moreno

Legion of Mary Spiritual presentation 25 May 2014 Christ and Mary 1.        Mary leads us to Jesus .  We first have to respond to some fears and criticisms regarding Marian piety.  Many fear that Mary separates believers from Christ. That she is in “competition” with Christ. That she places herself as a “screen” between God and us.  At the origin of that fear, there are usually negative experiences caused by off-the-track practices of Marian piety or false focuses on the person of Mary.  Such fears do not correspond to the reality desired by God and proclaimed by the Church in her life and in her doctrine. 2.      “Do what He tells you (Jn. 2: 4).” St. Pope John Paul II said: “Mary was truly united to Christ.  Not many of her words are preserved in the Bible, but these ones take us anew to her Son and to His Word. At Cana of Galilee, she addressed the servants with these words: “Do ...
