When I read this Gospel commentary, from The Imitation of Christ, this morning, it occurred to me that it is a good Scripture and commentary to ponder as we look forward to beginning our 33-day preparation for the Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary, according to St. Louis de Montfort.
We begin this coming Tuesday, August 12, and this year we will make, or renew, our Consecration on Sunday, September 14, 2014 (the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, a companion feast to the memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows.)

Commentary of the day : The Imitation of Christ
“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself"
“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself"
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 16:24-28.
Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? Or what can one give in exchange for his life?
For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father's glory, and then he will repay everyone according to his conduct."
Amen, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."

"Él que quiera venir detrás de mÃ, que renuncie a sà mismo”
Evangelio según San Mateo 16,24-28.
Entonces Jesús dijo a sus discÃpulos: "El que quiera venir detrás de mÃ, que renuncie a sà mismo, que cargue con su cruz y me siga.
Porque el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; y el que pierda su vida a causa de mÃ, la encontrará.
¿De qué le servirá al hombre ganar el mundo entero si pierde su vida? ¿Y qué podrá dar el hombre a cambio de su vida?
Porque el Hijo del hombre vendrá en la gloria de su Padre, rodeado de sus ángeles, y entonces pagará a cada uno de acuerdo con sus obras.
Les aseguro que algunos de los que están aquà presentes no morirán antes de ver al Hijo del hombre, cuando venga en su Reino".
