For Greater Glory Extols Religious Freedom
Its big Hollywood premiere is June 1, but already the film For Greater Glory: The True Story of the Cristiada has been exciting buzz across the country and resonating with audiences for its themes about religious liberty and government intrusion.

Based on the true story of the Cristero War in Mexico (1926-29), the film tells of the Mexican government's bloody persecution of Catholicism and the faithful who rose to defend their religious freedoms.

The film has had special sneak preview screenings in Austin and San Antonio, before its nationwide launch. Prior to the Austin screening hosted by the Texas Catholic Conference, TCC interviewed with Victor Pap, Vice President of Marketing and Outreach of the Maximus Group, who is promoting the film across the country. The interview is live on the
Texas Catholic podcast - tune in to learn more about the inspiration for the movie, the significance of the war, and reactions from U.S. viewers and those abroad. The podcast is available via iTunes or on the Texas Catholic Conference Audio Archive.

Bishops Urge House to Protect Poor

Congress should assess every budget decision by how it reflects the shared responsibility of the government and other institutions to protect human life and dignity, especially of the poor and vulnerable, said the bishop who chairs the Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in a May 8 letter to the House of Representatives.

“The Catholic bishops of the United States recognize the serious deficits our country faces, and we acknowledge that Congress must make difficult decisions about how to allocate burdens and sacrifices and balance resources and needs,” wrote Bishop Stephen E. Blaire of Stockton, California, as the House prepared to vote on a reconciliation package for the 2013 budget."

Blessing of A Child in the Womb Now Available

Just in time for Mother's day, the “Rite for the Blessing of a Child in the Womb” is now available for use by dioceses in the United States. “We hope the use of this blessing will provide not only support and God’s blessing for expectant parents and their child in the womb, but also another effective witness to the sanctity of human life from the first moment of conception,” said Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond, chairman of the Committee on Divine Worship of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). You can download the prayer in English and Spanish online here.
