Afterwords: Ten (10) Things to Think about in a Day

1)    The only thing impatience will get us is closer to our dying day.

2)    Make a habit of giving everyone the gift of encouragement every day.

3)    Each day is a new day, a new beginning, a fresh start to the rest of our life.

4)    Don’t spend all your time saving for a rainy day that you never spend anytime splurging on a sunshiny day.

5)    There are days in the desert, days on the mountaintop, and days at the beach; no matter what kind of day we are having it can always be a Divine day.

6)    Every day we have fresh encounters with God.

7)    Stay alert! We should prepare ourselves every day to face a challenge.

8)    Christ gives us comfort every day no matter what problems we face, no matter the hardships that come our way, no matter how deep our valleys or how steep our mountains.

9)    Start each day with God, continue throughout the day with God and finish each day with God.

10)         Don’t miss out on fresh encounters with God every day.

Spontaneous Acts of Thoughtfulness: It's not about the talk . . . it's really about the walk . . . .

(Received in email)

So I'm at Wal-Mart getting some stuff for my grandpa.
As I'm walking to my car I see three nuns at the Wal-Mart bus stop.
I say to myself "I should give them a ride."
I keep walking to my car to load my stuff.
I'm thinking it's silly to ask them but I feel this tug so I go back.

They had missed the bus and were praying for God to send someone to give them a ride to the bridge.

It was Sylvia, Aurora, and Yvonne.

I wish I could write something brilliant.

Give you something spiritual but I just don't have it in me.

Blah.

Intimacy with the Cross by Fr. Ben Bradshaw

(Received in email)

An aspect of authentic intimacy is intimacy with the Cross of Christ in uniting our own sufferings with his. As Blessed John Paul II has noted on a number of occasions, when we do this we:

1.) Come into contact with a part of ourselves that we never knew existed.

2.) We come into contact with a part of ourselves that would have remained dormant or unutilized, namely courage and character.

3.) We assist others in their own healing and growth in a more profound and intimate way, as well, because we have “been there”.

The beauty in this, of course, being that almost always in assisting others in their suffering, we are likewise healed as a spiritual byproduct of these efforts and empathy.

The Lenten journey of uniting our suffering to that of the Cross of Jesus Christ is often a process, not just a choice, but it is a process that completely transforms us into better men and women. Grace is indeed amazing.

Cardinal Dolan's 7-Point Evangelization Plan

Access entire article:

Cardinal Timothy Dolan offered a “creative strategy of evangelization” of which there are seven main planks.

First, we must work to keep the quest for God alive by always remembering that even those who boast of their secularism have an innate longing for the divine.
Second, “Be not afraid.” We should be confident in our message, which comes from Jesus Christ, but without giving way to triumphalism, which is the belief that our work is done and we have triumphed.
Third, we need to know that the new evangelization is not about presenting a doctrine or belief-system, but a Person, whose name is Jesus. The invitation which is implicit in the New Evangelization “is not to a doctrine but to know, love, and serve — not a something, but a Someone,” Dolan said.
Fourth, because Jesus is the Truth, evangelization is linked to catechesis.
Fifth, we need to be joyful evangelizers. “The New Evangelization is accomplished with a smile, not a frown!” he said.
Sixth, the New Evangelization is about love.
Lastly, the new Evangelization is about martyrdom. All Christians are called to be ready to suffer and die for Jesus. “It was Pope Paul VI who noted wisely that people today learn more from ‘witness than from words,’ and the supreme witness is martyrdom.

CATHOLICICM Coming to U.S. Armed Forces

Access: Word on Fire

On this Presidents' Day, Word on Fire Catholic Ministries is excited to announce the donation of 452 CATHOLICISM DVD sets, study materials and prayer cards to the U.S. Armed Forces in time for use during Lent. With the help of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, the materials will be made available to military priests, chaplains and lay leaders to assist in ministering to servicemen and women stationed domestically, in the far-flung reaches of the globe, and in the care of V.A. medical centers.

“The
CATHOLICISM series provides an effective opportunity to engage active duty young adults in the Catholic faith,” said Mark Moitoza, the Vice Chancellor for Evangelization at the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA. “We estimate that there are about 300,000 Catholic young adults in the military, and our archdiocese recently has been making a concerted effort to reach out to these young men and women serving our country."

The donation is important for a number of reasons: notably to catechize an underserved population of Catholics, to ensure
CATHOLICISM has a truly global reach, and to be a humble gesture of thanks to the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.

"Catholicism is not just a documentary about the Church, but a means of instilling faith, hope, and love, especially for those, like the members of the military, who might be separated from loved ones or find themselves immersed in the most difficult of circumstances,” said Father Barron. “It is my hope that this
gift will serve as a sign of the Church's comfort and care for all the men and women who serve their country."
